The Party

Cecilia did not want any trouble so she helped Cole pay his debt. Even after she figured out that he had used the money to get another female a gift, she did not want to be insulted.

"You are not rich and yet you want to have a love life, where is that done?" She said, watching the man who had come to collect his money leave.

Cole gulped hard, knowing what to say. "Thank you," He mumbled.

She hissed out. "I did not do it for you. It would be a stain to my name if my husband was owing someone money."

Cole almost smiled and it was at that moment he thought that Cecilia was not as tough as she looked. In fact, she could just be soft and scared to accept him.

Martin cleared his throat, "What do you think your parents would say if they found out their son in law was a pauper?" He asked, scratching his jaw.

Cecilia hissed out and passed by him. "You started it." That was all she said to no one in particular.

It was now remaining Cole and Martin standing. "Better get back to work, brother-in-law. Your work just increased by two as she just paid your debt." He said and Cole watched him as he went to his room.

He wondered how related the two were.

The day for the party came, Cole had taken out the suit he had gone to borrow and ironed it out. But still, it did not look like the pinstriped Brioni Vanquish II Martin was wearing which he knew was the most expensive in the suit world costing almost $43,000.

But he did not let himself think much of it as Cecilia made her way downstairs in her cleavage showing a purple velvet dress with some pretty designs on it. He admired her from a distance.

When she saw him, disappointment clouded her face as she saw the suit he was wearing, she knew Martin would use that against her so she said nothing.

Martin uttered a snort as he finally saw Cole. "Brother-in-law? I thought you could do better than this." He shook his head. "It is such a disgrace for Cecilia." He said, clicking his tongue.

Cole did not reply to him as they marched out of the man and got to the car. Martin entered his Ferrari Pininfarina costing almost three million dollars and Cecilia entered her Lamborghini with Cole contemplating where to enter.

She seemed to notice him and shook her head. "Enter." She told him.

He climbed into the car and the fresh air of the car made him breathe in. Like this was wealth.

The driver soon ignited the car's engine and they made their way to the party.

As soon as they got there, people were already arriving with flashy cars and expensive dresses.

Cole felt underdressed but he knew that he had no option since he could not afford a bigger one.

Cecilia pulled Cole and glared at him. "Keep your hands to yourself. This party is not for a pauper." She warned him and he blinked his eyes in response.

She pulled away from him like he had burnt and walked into the hall. From afar, Cole saw Martin laughing and talking with Seth.

What was the bastard doing here?

He had already figured out that he was the one behind him losing his job.

He followed Cecilia as she approached Seth whom she greeted with a half-hearted smile. Seth looked up at the guy behind her and laughter bubbled out of him.

"Did you find a job as a guard now? Wow, you are really in luck for jobs." He remarked mockingly.

Cecilia eyed him hard. "He is not a guard." She hissed through her teeth.

Seth raised his brows. "Really?" He intoned, turning to Martin who was sipping his wine.

"Yes, he is my brother-in-law now," Martin told him and they both laughed.

"You both should stop making the jest of him." She warned them. They stopped and glanced at each other before laughing out again.

Cole did not say anything as he watched them mock him. He felt like hitting Seth and kicking Martin in the dick but he did not. He just clenched his fist and killed them in his head.

Seth and Martin soon straightened up as an important figure was walking towards them.

Cole noticed the change in the air and he turned around to meet a man clearly in his late forties, he had a gold staff with a lion roaring on top of it, in his hands which he used in walking. The silver ring he wore accentuated his calloused hands.

"What the hell is going on here?" He asked, noticing Cecilia's hardened face.

Seth quickly spoke up. "You don't need to worry about it. We were just about to call security to throw someone who managed to crawl his way into the party."

Cole faced him with shock all over his face. What was he saying?

Cecilia was surprised at what Seth had said. Why would he say something like that to Mr. Justin?

She looked away with embarrassment. Martin gave Seth a go-ahead smile which Seth returned with a smile of his.

Mr. Justin looked Cole over from head to toe and nodded his head. "True, I never invited you. You can leave and I won't have you being disgraced."

Mr. Justin was known to be a no nonsense business man who hated people cheating him and him letting Cole out without any punishment was merciful.

Cole raised his hands in a surrender motion but Cecilia cut in,"No, he is my husband. I will take him out." She hesitated with the words.

Mr. Justin was quite surprised as he gave both of them a comparing look. "Really? The little princess of the Downs family. Okay, if you say so, make it snappy." He said but just as he was about to move back and walk away, his staff fell off his hands.

On instinct, Cole bent down to pick it up for him and stood up to hand it back to him.

Justin was surprised at the guts Cole had but as he was about to say something when he took in the young man's appearance.

He resembled… Immediately, his eyes hovered to Cecilia then back at him. His eyes went wide and recognition flashed through his face.

"What are you waiting for? Take your husband out of here." Seth impatiently told Cecilia who was about to take Cole by his hand and leave.

Justin raised his hands, stopping the guards who were about to rush forward. Seth became confused.

What was he doing?

Justin soon got himself back and smiled slightly at Cole. "Can I see you for a moment?" He asked, the question catching everyone by surprise.

Fear coated Cecilia's face and she knew that Cole was doomed for.
