They went into sub dungeon, cleared them, searching for the pass token which they were unfortunate enough not to find after clearing three. Sub dungeon is a common slang used by players in this game to refer to a spot where there is more than one monster to kill. It could have been called a dungeon if it has it's own boss, but unfortunately they don't and most id them are always on equal strength level.
