From Prison to Greatness

Chapter 06

"You can drive, Doctor?" Amber asked as they walked away from the hospital.

"I can, Miss Amber. Leave it to me," Caleb replied right away.

"Thank you, Doctor."

At this point, they were already in the car, and Caleb asked, "Where are we going, Miss Amber?"

"To the Clifton Family Auction House," Amber answered.

"As you wish, Miss Amber," Caleb said as he started driving.

A silence fell between them during the ride, and Amber couldn’t help but wonder—was this man not even the slightest bit interested in talking to her?

So many men desperately wanted to talk to her, yet she rejected them all. And now, this man finally had the chance to talk to her... and he didn’t even try?

Naturally, this only deepened Amber’s curiosity—and attraction—toward Caleb. What an interesting man. He ignored a woman as beautiful as me!

Eventually, Amber decided to break the silence herself. “By the way, may I know your name, Doctor? Calling you 'Doctor' all the time feels a bit odd. It would be better if I could call you by your actual name.”

Caleb immediately replied, “My name is Caleb Martin. You can call me Caleb, Miss Amber.”

Martin Family? Amber frowned slightly. This was the first time she’d heard of that name.

They weren’t one of the top one hundred most influential families in Fluxville. So were they from outside the city? A wealthy family from a faraway place?

Of course, to raise someone as capable and exceptional as Caleb, his family must be rich and powerful.

But why had she never heard of them before? They were a complete mystery to her.

While Amber was still lost in thought, before she realized it, they had arrived at the Clifton Family Auction House.

Amber showed a black invitation card to the guards—an indication that she was one of the esteemed VIP guests.

Seeing that, the guards immediately showed great respect, bowing as they let the car pass through.

As the two of them walked toward the entrance, a man’s voice suddenly stopped them.

"You?! What the hell are you doing here, You Bastard?!"

Hearing that, both Caleb and Amber turned to the source of the voice—and spotted a handsome man in an expensive suit, standing beside a beautiful woman in a black dress. It was none other than Ethan and Ava.

"Excuse me? Were you talking to me?!" Ava asked, clearly annoyed. She didn’t even know this man, and yet he dared to curse at her?! If this bastard was looking for trouble, Amber would be more than happy to give it to him.

When Ethan saw Amber, he was stunned. He had to admit, she was breathtaking—far more beautiful than Ava.

Amber had mesmerizing eyes, skin as fair as snow, and silky black hair that fell down past her hips. Her beauty was undeniable—like an angel descending from heaven.

Naturally, Ethan couldn’t help but wonder how such a beautiful woman could be walking beside someone like Caleb—especially at such an important event?!

He had to find out what was going on.

Ethan then responded with a warm smile, “Ah, forgive me if you thought I was talking to you. I was actually referring to the man beside you.”

Amber turned to Caleb. “Do you know him, Caleb?”

“I honestly don’t, Miss Amber. But he’s the man who took my wife,” Caleb said coldly, his eyes fixed on Ethan.

Ava suddenly cut in, “How dare you say that, Caleb?! Mr. Thompson didn’t take me—I gave myself to him! Besides, who would want to be with a criminal like you?! You’re nothing but trash in my eyes!”

Caleb's expression turned bitter, like something had torn inside his chest. Ava had truly changed. She was no longer the woman he once knew.

Meanwhile, Ethan wore a smug grin as Ava humiliated Caleb. That’s what you deserve, You Bastard!

He added, “I don’t know how you met him, or what sweet lies he fed you to get here, but as you’ve just heard—he’s a criminal. He just got out of prison today. So I’d suggest kicking him out before you regret it. Who knows what kind of trouble he might bring you.”

Amber was taken aback by what Ethan said. Caleb was a criminal? He was released from prison today?

She turned to Caleb. “Is that true, Caleb?”

Caleb nodded. “It’s true, Miss Amber. I was released from prison today.”

At that, Amber gave a small nod of understanding. Now she grasped the full picture.

Caleb had just gotten out of prison—only for his wife to abandon him and run off with this arrogant man.

Amber didn’t know the exact details of their relationship, but from the look of heartbreak and disbelief in Caleb’s eyes when Ava spoke, it was clear their relationship had once been good.

What a foolish woman! She threw away a good man like Caleb... and for what? A cocky, manipulative guy like Ethan—who could betray her at any moment?

Couldn’t she see Caleb’s true worth?

Didn’t she realize that Caleb was someone exceptional?

Well, if Ava didn’t want him, Amber had no problem making him hers.

More importantly, she wanted to uncover Caleb’s true identity. Judging by how Ava treated him, it was obvious Caleb had kept his real identity hidden from her.
