Two days had passed and Ryan was still at the hospital receiving proper care and if not for efforts by the government of Megalos to improve free healthcare access to underemployed or lesser financially stable citizens. Ryan would have struggled to pay for all the care he'd been receiving so far.

A doctor, donning a white lab coat, walked in and held his tablet in his hand, looking at various items.

His gaze caught Ryan in a sharp stare which lasted some minutes before he spoke to him.

"Mr Ryan you would be discharged today as our recent health assessments have shown us that you're fit to return to your daily activities."

Ryan wasn't even interested in what the doctor was telling him, he'd just lost the only one that meant family to him and would now move into a life of absolute loneliness.

"I understand." Ryan softly replied.

Within two hours he was discharged from the hospital as he exited the hospital he felt cold and empty.

He decided to take the long walk home to at least get some rest and prepare for a tedious workday ahead of him.

Ryan, a graduate in Economics, was working in the production department at a factory and wasn't being paid enough, as he had to work multiple jobs to stay financially afloat.

Ryan returned to the apartment building and he realised that he'd been away for three weeks.

The place was already fixed as the areas affected by the attack were properly taken care of by the owner of the building.

A neighbour who saw Ryan waved as Ryan halted his movement.

"Howdy Neighbour." The neighbour greeted him as he threw him a bunch of keys.

Ryan looked at them and realised that these keys didn't look familiar to him at all.

The neighbour seeing the reaction on Ryan's face answered the question.

"They are your new keys the repairs have been done on your apartment and these are the new keys for the new door."

"Oh thank you so much for keeping them for me," Ryan responded in genuine gratitude as he forced a smile despite his sadness.

The neighbour nodded affirmatively and walked away towards another direction leading to the highway.

Ryan entered the apartment building and took the elevator as the elevator's doors shut, he wondered what would become of him.

"Is this the end for me?"

"Where do I go from here?"

"What do I do at this point in my life?"

"Dad is gone, Mom is gone and worst of all Dylan is gone?"

All these questions bombarded the young Ryan's mind as his world seemed to be crumbling before his very eyes and darkness started to erode the beauty of his reality.

Ding!

The elevator's sound brought him back to a state of consciousness as he started to quietly walk towards his apartment which was just on the second floor of the apartment building.

Ryan heaved a sigh and he opened the door to his apartment using the key and he realised that everything looked arranged.

"I guess the workmen did a good job in arranging my property while I was away at the hospital. I'm really grateful for that." Ryan commented as he locked the door behind him.

Ryan held his stomach as it growled he knew that he hadn't eaten today. He had no choice but to check his fridge for any available food that he could consume at the moment.

It was at that moment that he opened the fridge he saw some frozen tins of corned beef and he took them out of the fridge to defrost.

He grabbed a bottle of water which was what mostly dominated his fridge since it was the cheapest thing to afford due to his meagre salary.

He consumed half of the contents of the bottle of water and made sure that he brought out a second bottle just in case he got thirsty again.

Bzzzzzz! Bzzzzzz!

Ryan's phone vibrated as he'd picked up his phone in the hospital the nurses were so kind they kept it for him in a safe place.

He looked at the cracked screen and it was none other than his boss calling him.

He reluctantly picked up the call as he listened carefully.

"Good Evening, Mr Ryan it's come to my knowledge that you've not been at work for the past three weeks now."

There was a pause that lasted several seconds before the boss spoke again.

"Kindly inform me why you haven't shown up to work." The boss said expecting a reasonable response.

"I've been in the hospital for the past three weeks Sir and my brother was involved in an attack by the criminal gang known as the Typhoon. I lost him in that attack and I haven't been able to make it work ever since but I promise to be available tomorrow." Ryan explained as he paused expecting his boss's response.

"It's okay. I've heard what you have to say you can resume work tomorrow." The boss replied and cut the call.

Ryan heaved a sigh of relief as he grabbed the remote from the centre table and switched on the television desperately trying to forget the reality that befell him.

He changed the channels at random seeing nothing reasonable on television to actually watch.

He then switched it off and walked towards the kitchen picking up the can of corned beef and he opened it as he consumed the contents.

Ryan could only try to find solace in the food he was currently consuming of which he'd gradually realise that he was now living alone.

His eyes caught the framed picture of his younger brother at his graduation ceremony in Champions University.

"I miss you Dylan but I promise I'll do all it takes to avenge your untimely demise by the hands of those merciless beasts. I will seek vengeance." Ryan said as his eyes betrayed sorrow and pain.

Ryan started to sob heavily and by the time you know it his tears rolled down his cheeks thereby portraying an image of a sad and broken young man.

Ryan wept continuously until he found himself in the land of dreams.

His sleep continued smoothly until it was interrupted by the buzzing of his alarm clock.

Grimmmmm! Grimmmmm!

The alarm clock blared loudly until Ryan arose to turn it off. Then he walked towards the bathroom to have his daily shower as the sound of rushing water met human skin.

It took several minutes before Ryan exited the bathroom in his underwear as he walked towards his wardrobe and donned a shirt and trousers with sandals to match.

It didn't take time before he left his apartment and locked the door finding his way to the elevator and it took him downstairs.

Ryan's mood had shifted ever since Dylan's demise and this affected his jovial appearance.

As Ryan raced towards his office and tried to cross the road he couldn't see the large van that was coming his way.

Gbam!

The force of the hit threw Ryan's body several feet into the air before it forcefully landed on the ground.

The scene of the accident shocked passersby as they were filled with a deep sense of shock.

"Call the emergency services!"

"I hope he's still alive?"

"What the heck?"

"Oh my goodness!"

Several individuals commented out of concern and felt deeply saddened by the seeming death of this young man.
