Chapter 1: The Art of Doing Nothing
The velvet chair at Café de la Paix felt like a cloud. Nicolás let his head loll back against the plush upholstery. He sighed, the sound lost in the ambient clatter of porcelain and the murmur of high society gossip. Life in his previous existence had been a relentless treadmill of unpaid bills and cold ramen. In this life, he had discovered the ultimate cheat code. He did not need to swing a sword or chant archaic spells like the arrogant idiots who populated this city. He just needed to exist.
A blue translucent box shimmered into view before his eyes, visible only to him.
[Idle God System Active]
[Status: Sleeping / Sitting / Breathing]
[XP Gained: 5,000,000]
[Current Level: 99]
Nicolás stifled a yawn. Five million points for a nap. It was almost too easy. He watched a businessman in a tailored suit walk past, chest puffed out with the pride of a Level 12 Awakener. The man probably spent eighteen hours a day in a gravity chamber to achieve that meager power. Nicolás adjusted his posture, feeling the system reward his minor adjustment with a fresh wave of vitality.
"Another latte," Nicolás mumbled to a passing waiter.
He was the definition of a slacker, yet the world around him was a ticking time bomb. The city was governed by shadows. Secret societies held the economy by the throat while dark mages patrolled the rooftops. Nicolás could not have cared less as long as his coffee stayed warm and the chair remained soft. He took a slow sip, his eyes half closed. The system chimed again, a soft digital ping that tickled his brain.
[Skill Unlocked: Lazy Aura]
[Passive Effect: Enemies within a five meter radius feel a crushing weight of apathy.]
"Perfect," Nicolás whispered. "Finally, a way to keep people away from my table."
The atmosphere in the cafe shifted instantly. The polished wood floor groaned under a sudden, violent vibration. Nicolás did not move. He was halfway through a pastry, and he had no intention of letting the rhythm of his morning be ruined by a localized earthquake. The glass windows at the front of the shop shattered inward with a deafening spray of crystalline shrapnel. Patrons screamed, ducking under tables as a blur of velvet and leather lunged through the wreckage.
Renata hit the ground hard, her breath coming in ragged, desperate gasps. She was beautiful, even in the middle of a war zone. Her silver hair was matted with dust, and a jagged tear in her silk dress revealed a streak of blood on her shoulder. She scrambled toward the nearest table, her eyes wide with terror. She scanned the room, her gaze locking onto the one person who wasn't hiding.
Nicolás remained slumped in his chair. He didn't even look up from his phone.
"Hey, you!" Renata shrieked, sprinting toward him. "Get down! They are right behind me!"
Nicolás frowned. He looked at the wreckage of the door, then back at his half-eaten croissant. "You are tracking dirt onto the rug, Miss. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a good cafe in this neighborhood?"
Renata grabbed his collar, pulling him toward the floor. Her face was flushed with adrenaline, her chest heaving against his arm. She smelled of ozone and expensive perfume. "Are you deaf? There are assassins coming! They are going to level this entire block to get to me!"
"They are going to ruin my morning, is what they are going to do," Nicolás replied, unmoved.
Outside the shattered entrance, three figures materialized from the smoke. They wore dark, hooded robes that seemed to swallow the light. Their fingers glowed with a sickly violet energy, arcs of black lightning dancing between their palms. They moved with the predatory grace of trained killers, their gazes fixed squarely on Renata. The leader of the group pointed a staff at the table where Nicolás sat.
"Hand over the heiress, boy," the leader hissed, his voice sounding like dry leaves skittering on concrete. "Your life is worth nothing compared to the bounty on her head."
Renata pressed her back against Nicolás, her heart hammering against his spine. She was trembling. He could feel the heat radiating from her skin. It was an interesting sensation, a stark contrast to the cold, clinical indifference of his system interface. He looked down at her hand, which was gripping his sleeve with enough force to turn her knuckles white.
"Are you going to do something?" Renata whispered, her voice cracking. "Or are you just going to sit there and let us die?"
Nicolás checked his system notifications again. The dark mages were closing in, their energy signatures spiking. He felt a surge of something he hadn't experienced in years. It wasn't fear. It was annoyance. Deep, profound, and utterly overwhelming annoyance.
[Quest Alert: Protect the Heiress]
[Reward: 50,000,000 XP]
[Failure Penalty: Your favorite chair is destroyed]
Nicolás stood up. He did it slowly, stretching his arms above his head until his joints popped. The dark mages froze, sensing a sudden, suffocating pressure filling the room. The air grew heavy, like lead pressing down on their chests. One of the mages stumbled, his magical construct flickering and dying.
"You really shouldn't have broken that door," Nicolás said, his voice flat.
He didn't draw a weapon. He didn't invoke a spell. He simply flicked his wrist as if swatting away a particularly persistent fly. A ripple of golden energy tore through the air, vibrating with a frequency that defied the laws of physics. It slammed into the mages with the force of a falling mountain.
They didn't even have time to scream. The impact vaporized the lead assassin, leaving nothing but a lingering scent of burnt ozone. The other two were blown backward, crashing through the solid stone wall of the cafe and disappearing into the chaos of the street outside.
Silence returned to the shop. Dust motes danced in the shafts of sunlight pouring through the broken windows. Nicolás stood in the center of the debris, looking down at his hands with a bored expression.
Renata stood behind him, her mouth agape. She stared at the spot where the assassins had been, then looked up at Nicolás. The terror in her eyes had been replaced by a raw, unadulterated shock. She reached out, her fingers trembling as she brushed the dust off his jacket.
"Who," she breathed, "are you?"
Nicolás didn't answer. He turned his gaze to the street. More cloaked figures were emerging from the shadows, their eyes glowing with an ominous light. They weren't just mages. They were an army. The leader of the pack stepped forward, his eyes narrowing as he realized his subordinates had been erased.
"The Syndicate does not tolerate interference," the new voice boomed, echoing through the empty street. "Kill them both. Leave nothing but ash."
Renata stepped closer to Nicolás, her body pressing against his. She was shivering again, but this time, there was a spark of something else in her eyes. "There are too many of them. Nicolás, we have to run!"
Nicolás looked at his system interface. The XP counter was climbing rapidly as the mages gathered. Fifty million points for finishing the quest. A smirk played on his lips.
"Run?" Nicolás whispered, his hand sliding down to rest on her waist. "I haven't even finished my coffee yet."
He watched the mages raise their staves. The air crackled with lethal energy, turning the sky a bruised shade of purple. Renata clutched his shirt, pulling him closer as the first wave of dark fire arched toward them, illuminating the room in a blinding, hellish flash.

The Idle God of Eternal Sloth Chapter 58: Deleting the IRS
The void of the Multiversal Revenue Service was crumbling, and frankly, Nicolás couldn’t be happier. The Grand Auditor, a construct of infinite, unyielding cold, stood in the center of a swirling vortex of literal shredded bureaucracy. He wasn’t a god anymore. He was just a massive, blinking notification of an Unhandled Exception."Accept the liquidation!" Nicolás screamed, his voice amplified by the raw, unmetered mana he was channeling directly from the city's newly decentralized infrastructure. He didn't have his Aura of Apathy anymore; he was stripped raw, a man holding a match inside a mountain of TNT.Renata was a blur of silver-tipped violence, her movements cutting through the white noise of the null-zone with such precise anger that every stroke sent shockwaves through the Auditor’s logic core. "Buy them out, Nicolás!" she roared, dodging a lunge from a phantom blade made of interest rates. "Spend every last bit of the experience debt you’ve been hoarding! Bankrupt the entity

The Idle God of Eternal Sloth Chapter 57: The Void Audit
The void wasn't an empty space; it was a hungry, vibrating, static-drenched cage. It was the "Accounting Null-Zone," a realm where things that weren't supposed to exist—erased variables, tax-evading gods, and corrupted software—went to be digested by the universe’s own immune system.Nicolás drifted, or perhaps he was merely imagining that he was moving. There was no ‘up’ or ‘down’ here, just the infinite, cold glare of raw, uninterpreted reality. Beside him, Renata flickered like a candle flame caught in a windstorm, her essence struggling to maintain its shape in a space where even the concept of ‘physical form’ was considered a clerical error. The Auditor emerged from the mist of white noise, his form finally stripped of the suit, the facade, and the executive pretension. He looked like a tear in the sky—a jagged silhouette defined only by what was missing. He was growing. Every passing second in the null-zone expanded him, turning his presence from an annoying manager into a primo

The Idle God of Eternal Sloth Chapter 56: Filing for Bankruptcy
The sky was a shattered mosaic of administrative nightmare. Fractured spreadsheets floated through the upper atmosphere like bioluminescent jellyfish, each column vibrating with the agonizing, distorted scream of the Grand Auditor, who was currently drowning in Hans’s bottomless ocean of trivial grievances and forgotten grocery lists."The loop won’t hold him forever," The Manager muttered, his voice ragged as he clutched a datapad that was actively overheating. "He’s evolving his processing speed. He’s cutting through the ‘1998 Annual Tax Discrepancy’ file like it’s butter."Nicolás stared at the hovering interface—a sprawling, luminous nexus of Admin Rights he’d ripped from the System Child’s heart. His hands felt cold, steady, and detached from his body. Behind him, Renata was adjusting her armor, the silver plates chinking with the rhythm of a woman preparing for an impossible heist."We don’t need it to hold him forever," Nicolás said, his tone icy. "We just need it to hold him l

The Idle God of Eternal Sloth Chapter 55: The Family Plan
The sanctuary felt like the inside of a glitching GPU. Static ribbons, fractured remnants of the Grand Auditor’s stalled data—crawled along the frescoed ceilings like iridescent worms, occasionally sparking with the smell of scorched ozone. Above them, the giant, pixelated ‘Pause’ icon in the sky hummed with the high-pitched drone of a trillion concurrent computations."We have thirty minutes before his primary sub-processor gets through the childhood poetry archive," Nicolás remarked, propping his boots on the remains of a decorative pedestal. "Hans is efficient. He intentionally left the metaphorically messy stuff, he diaries and the tax audit disputes from the afterlife,to be processed in the latter half of the queue."Renata Vancroft, her iron-hued armor shimmering with a dull, residual luster, didn't bother looking up at the sky. She was checking the seals on her mana-link. Beside them, the "Child",now resembling a slightly agitated mass of levitating fiber-optic cable, shivered
