Chapter 3

~Xavier

This is going to be an easy mission, I told myself. I would spend the full one million dollars—but definitely not on women. I was going to spend every last cent on myself.

Leaving the bridge where I had nearly ended everything, I headed straight for one of the most luxurious malls on campus.

The moment I stepped inside, I made a beeline for the high-end clothing section. I hadn’t even reached the display when a perfectly tailored black suit caught my eye.

I pointed at it.

“I want that one. All for myself.”

The sales representative looked me up and down before speaking with barely concealed disdain.

“I don’t mean to sound rude, but that suit is the most expensive piece we currently have. It costs one hundred thousand dollars, and I don’t think you can afford—”

“Here.” I stretched my card toward her before she could finish. “Like I said, I want that suit.”

She hesitated, still eyeing me like a pauper, then finally took the card.

“Your PIN,” she said, her tone sharp and rude.

I entered it. In the blink of an eye her expression exploded with shock.

“Payment successful!” the machine beeped.

Her previously frowning face transformed into a deep, respectful smile. She bowed.

“Pardon my earlier attitude, sir. I will package the clothes for you immediately. Please forgive me once again!”

I nodded with a smirk.

It felt damn good to be rich. You could command respect from anyone—literally anyone.

“Here you are, sir. Would you like to try the clothes on now, or take them home?”

“Where’s your dressing room?”

“Right over there, sir—to your right. It’s the VIP dressing room. You’re welcome to freshen up inside if you wish.”

I didn’t waste a second. I stepped into the VIP room, took a quick shower, and slipped into the new outfit.

When I walked back out into the store, every head turned. People stared as if I were glittering under the lights.

I scoffed. Who wouldn’t stare? This suit was fucking expensive. If they could afford it, they wouldn’t be looking at me like that.

The sales rep pointed to her left.

“Sir, the dressing mirror is over there. You should take a look and see how much you like it.”

I stepped in front of the mirror. The tailored black suit made me look extremely rich. It pulled an entirely different aura out of me. I felt like I was about to—

The smile on my face vanished.

In the reflection I caught a glimpse of a woman staring at me from behind. She was tall, curvy, with perfectly shaped breasts, seductive lips, and smooth, exposed legs so fresh I could already imagine myself inside her, riding her to my glory.

Fuck… she was so hot.

[Marie’s Affection: +5]

An arrow-shaped love icon appeared above the woman’s head with “+5” floating beside it.

Wait—had she just admired me purely because of how I looked?

The technology panel floated into view.

[Name: Marietta Thompson]

Age: 23

Height: 160 cm

Weight: 65 kg

Admiration Status: 5 Points

[95 more points to hook up with Marie!]

[0–10 points = Friendship]

[11–30 points = Secret Admiration]

[31–50 points = Crush]

[51–70 points = Dating]

[71–80 points = Halfway to Hook-Up]

[81–95 points = Hook-Up]

[95–100 points = Deep Hook-Up / Forever Sexual Relationship]

I blinked at the floating system window.

Marie was a senior student, the most beautiful girl in the Design Department, and the dream goddess of countless guys on campus. It made perfect sense for the system to rate her appearance above an 8—if anything, that number felt a little low.

But I hadn’t done anything. So how had my admiration rating jumped by five points?

Originally I had only planned to pocket some of the Peerless Money first and figure out the affection side later. Unexpectedly, my points had increased by accident.

Could it be because I bought a full Armani outfit and suddenly looked more handsome?

Or was it simply that having the money to buy Armani made me seem less like a loser?

That old saying was true: money is for women to *see*, not for women to spend.

I turned back to the sales rep.

“You said the suit costs a hundred thousand each, right? How many are left?”

She smiled brightly.

“We have it in three designer colors, Mr. Stone. That’s three hundred thousand for all of them, but because you’re a VIP, we’ll offer the set at a discounted price of two hundred and fifty thousand.”

I handed her my card again.

“I want them all.”

She scanned it.

“Payment successful!”

The machine beeped. Marie’s eyes widened in shock.

Instantly the love arrow appeared again.

[Marie’s Affection: +10!]

[Congratulations, Host. You have upgraded your relationship with Marie to Secret Admiration. Raise her Affection to 30 points and finish spending your first payout to receive your rewards!]

Hearing the system notification, I was overjoyed. Fantastic—my favorability had risen again so easily.

Even the system’s earlier warnings about spending money on myself had stopped. That could only mean I was on the right track to complete the mission.

Okay, I got it now. I didn’t necessarily have to spend money directly on wooing beautiful women. I hadn’t expected favorability to rise this easily just from an outfit. If Marie’s affection could jump from a simple suit, how much higher would it climb if I impressed her further?

I walked over to where she stood and greeted her casually.

“Hey, Miss Thompson” My tone was the same as if I were greeting any other student.

Most guys got nervous around Marie—some grew flustered, some restless, some even stuttered. I stayed completely calm and composed. The relaxed demeanor was genuine, as if the person in front of me was just an ordinary senior.

[Marie's Affection: +2]

“Xavier, you came here for a big shopping spree too? That outfit suits you really well.”

I replied, “I’m not very good at fashion, so I just chose big brands and asked the sales assistants to help me pick them out. I’m relieved to have your approval, Marie. I’m actually planning to buy some graduation presents for my sister. Do you have any suggestions?”

I let my eyes trail over her body for a second.

“By the way, I love your dress. It’s comfortable and stylish. If I could learn even a quarter of what you know, I would have graduated from campus by now.”

I wasn’t trying to suck up to Marie, but there was nothing wrong with a little genuine praise. Besides, she seemed easy to deal with, and we could both benefit from working together.

She smiled.

“Xavier, you’re praising me in a roundabout way. But I do know a fair amount about fashion and cosmetics—I plan to work in this field after graduation. What’s your budget for your sister’s gifts?”

“Around five hundred thousand.”

I deliberately didn’t mention the entire million-dollar budget. What if I used up every last dollar and my affection rating still failed to reach the required level? It was smarter to keep some money in reserve.

Marie’s expression shifted instantly, showing more shock than before. It was clear she doubted whether I could actually afford that amount.

Her affection points, however, did not increase. That told me she didn’t completely believe me—after all, it was possible I was just bragging. Everyone still remembered me as the poor simp.

“Alright then, no problem,” Marie said, adjusting her bag. “Since you’re sure about that budget, I’ll use you to test my fashion and beauty expertise. Let’s go get your sister some proper graduation presents.”

Marie and I started shopping together.

At the Chanel store she picked out a pair of women’s sneakers for my sister that cost ten thousand dollars. I bought them without a second thought.

At the Louis Vuitton store she selected a limited-edition pair of bags priced at seventeen thousand dollars. I still bought them without hesitation.

Then we spotted a display for the brand-new Roselle Pixel 2026 collection. The sales representative explained that only pre-orders were usually accepted because the pieces were extremely expensive.

When Marie asked the price, the cheapest item started at one hundred thousand dollars.

She turned to me.

“Your sister will definitely love this collection, Xavier. Should we get it for her?”

I shrugged.

“As long as the recommendation came from you. Go ahead.”

Marie smiled and eagerly reached for a Roselle lipstick.

Just as her fingers were about to close around it, another hand shot out and grabbed the same tube.

“I got it first!”

My face darkened.

I recognized that voice. It was familiar because I had heard it countless times, yet unfamiliar because I had never heard it spoken in that tone.

Looking at the woman fighting Marie for the lipstick, my expression went cold.

What rotten luck.

It was Isabella. And standing right beside her was Carl Wilson, the Dean’s son.

“Let go of the lipstick—I got it first!” Marie demanded.

Isabella clung to it tighter.

“No, I got it first before yo—”

The words died in her throat the instant she saw me.

She staggered back, lips trembling.

“Xavi… Xavier?! Are you stalking me or what?”

~XavierI took Marie to the Royal’s Kitchen. Once we settled at our table, the waiter brought the menu and asked us to order.I didn’t ask Marie what she wanted. I simply ordered for both of us.I wasn’t going to be a simp who bought women whatever they asked for. Instead, I bought whatever I wanted to enjoy. I felt like seafood, so Marie would eat the same thing.Women were decorative objects and companions. I only took them along so I could enjoy life more fully. This way I could keep beautiful women by my side, showcase my abilities in front of them, and watch their Affection ratings climb—which worked entirely in my favor.Marie didn’t decline a single dish I ordered. We got grouper, Italian lobster with a rich Italian sauce, crab stew, and several other exquisite plates. The restaurant’s minimum was $266 per person, but my order easily exceeded $700. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. It really was a high-end place with outstanding seafood. I’ve never seen a guy as handsome as you before!”When she said that, Carl immediately adjusted his own hair.Xavier gave Carl and me a dismissive look before turning to Marie with a light scoff.“Yeah, thank you for the compliment. ~XavierFive years into our relationship, I remembered it all with perfect clarity.Every morning I woke up early just to prepare and serve Isabella her breakfast. Whenever I handed her the plate, she would take it with a cold, downgrading look and say:“Alright, you can go ahead and leave already.”If it was raining and she still hadn’t left for school, I would drop whatever I was doing, rush to her apartment, hand her an umbrella, and walk back under the rain myself. Her only response was always the same:“You’re late.”And whenever she fell sick, I would hurry over with a cup of ginger tea so she could drink it and feel better. After everything I had done for her… she still held no real affection for me?Her affection rate had stayed locked at 1. Yet today, the moment she watched me spend large amounts of money, it suddenly jumped from 1 to 8.“Xavier! Xavier! Wait for me!”Isabella’s voice called out behind me. ~XavierI waited patiently until Isabella had finished underestimating me all the way down the corridor, then calmly handed the cashier my debit card. Of course it was loaded with cash. The moment the machine beeped—Payment Successful!—the confident smile on her face vanished. Her mouth opened, closed, then opened again, but no words came out. Even Carl’s face showed how shocked they both were.I decided to twist the knife a little deeper. When the cashier handed my card back, I smiled at them.“Sorry… what did you say again? That I cannot afford one hundred thousand dollars?”Isabella’s face drained of colour. She shook her head in panic.“No way. You’ve got brokeness written all over you. You’re always dressed in worn-out clothes. How were you able to afford one hundred thousand dollars?! You are…”She stopped mid-sentence. Her eyes trailed over my outfit from head to toe. She pointed at me.“Wait… hold on! Those are all designer brands. How did you afford the money to buy all of t
