Chapter 5

After that day we started to hear that voice everywhere, even in his dreams he could hear it echo in over and over again.

“Fireball max level reached.” it sounded like neither a man nor a woman and it was on constant repeat and it got even worse when he was training so Rex decided to take a break from training for a while and focus on reading on enchantments but the voice did not really him a break, he was barely able to sleep anymore and he walked into classes looking like death warmed up and almost all of the time lately.

Though the professors barely scolded him, this was because they did not even see him as a student anymore but rather just a spare part that came to warm up the seat. They even liked it or at least preferred it when it came late or missed classes altogether.

Then it started one sunny afternoon, after coming in late as usual Rex looked around for an empty seat of course nobody wanted him to sit next to them and so we have to go all the way to the back where there was some space but the girl that was sitting there immediately stood up and went to find another seat.

He could barely hear what the professor was teaching from all the way in the back and decided to just nap for a moment then the voice came again and it was louder than before.

“Fireball Max le-"

”Who the hell are you...?!"

Everyone's eyes suddenly shot over to him and he was breathing intensely as he glared out all of them, bolting up.

“Which one of you is it? Which one of you is doing this to me... You are even clocking your voice so that I will not recognise it!"

The students began to exchange classes with each other and then whispered while the professor addressed Rex.

” Young man, what are you babbling about? Please sit down so I can teach my students that are serious...“

Rex looked at the professor.

”Ma, is it you?"

He asked her with a scratchy voice.

“Are you the one in my head? Because you are driving me crazy!”

The whole class immediately started to laugh.

“This guy has totally lost it!”One guy two seats ahead of him said.

“ Let's stay away from him... He's not going to be any fun now that he has lost it...”

Rex could no longer take it, he just ran out of the lecture hall, then he went to the library at least that place will be very quiet and he wouldn't have to bother hearing any other voice other than the one that was plaguing him.

Or at least that was what he had hoped for and he got some books and enchantments to see if there was anything he could learn about the voice that was wandering in his head and why it would not let him be.

His eyes eagerly scanned one page after another reading every letter so that he would not miss anything by mistake and then he came up with something that was very interesting.

The book said that no wizard had ever been able to train an enchantment so it's the final level that such a thing was basically a myth because no one has been able to achieve it despite years of training and studies even the most talented of wizards had been incapable of this.

“is it possible that I'm just losing my mind?” Rex thought to himself as he held one page flipping to the next as he practically had his head buried in a book and he was mumbling to himself the voice came back again repeating the same phrase about the max level and before I knew it he was dating his head around again looking for the source of the intense voice.

As he was moving his head about two students noticed it and they were about to sit next to him when they saw that he was the one sitting there and immediately got up from their seats.

“I can't believe I almost sat next to the fireball freak I think I'm going to be sick what if his loser vibes rub up on us?"

One of the students asked the other immediately shivered.

” Gosh I can't imagine such a life. I would not even be able to get up from bed every day knowing that I can only do one enchantment... But have you heard?"

Rex didn't understand if the people in his year thought he was utterly deaf because they would say the worst things about him right in front of him without having the courage to say it to his face or at least a little dignity to hide while they do it.

“oh what happened to him this time?!"

The student's friend chirped.

” they say that he has finally lost it, that he keeps hearing a voice in his head...“

” wow that's so creepy, if he's a nut bag now he's not going to be much fun to play with how sad at least he was good gossip material before I wonder how long it will be before he finally gets expelled...“

They were finally headed out then to another part of the library leaving him with his thoughts.

” Are these people really right?“ Rex asked himself, digging his fingers into his hair that was ruffled now.

” What if all this intense training, the pressure I'm gossiping has finally made me snap? If that turns out to be true I'll probably be expelled!"

As you were having these thoughts again the voice came back and it was louder than ever it seemed as if his skull was going to shatter and the ground beneath him then he decided that he could not run away anymore and so he had to face it head-on he closed his eyes and asked again.

“Who are you?”
