Chapter 4

Arthur understood the gravity of the situation as he stood by Emily's grandfather's bedside.

The frail old man lay motionless, his shallow breaths the only sign of life. Arthur couldn't help but feel a weight of responsibility pressing down on him. If he could save Mr. Lee's life, it would repay the debt of Emily saving his life.

With a gentle hand, Arthur checked Mr. Lee's pulse.

Emily was standing nearby, "Arthur, please, you have to help him," she implored.

"I'll do everything I can, Emily," Arthur replied with a reassuring smile.

Arthur stood by Mr. Lee's bedside, his hands trembling with uncertainty. He wasn't sure if it was possible to use his powers to heal someone.

His magical abilities was still a mystery to him. Arthur was clearly nervous, and with Nicole constant pleading he felt he was at a loss, with no actual medical skill.

The frail old man lay before him, his breaths even more irregular.

Emily who had a bit of hope earlier, lifted her chin and stared into Arthur's eyes.

"Arthur, please, you have to try. We have no other options."

Arthur's sea-blue eyes met Emily's, and he saw the desperation mirrored in her gaze. Despite he believed in rewarding acts of kindness Nicole had shown him-it was proving to be impossible.

Taking a deep breath, Arthur held Mr. Lee's hand, his mind clouded with doubt.

Nicole's whimpering made the muscles of his heart tightened, causing tear to trickle down his cheeks.

A tiny but sharp pain surged through his body and he bite his lips trying to curb the pain in his heart.

Mr Lee's purse was becoming weaker.

'He is dying!' Arthur felt as though his heart was about to stop and then he whispered-

"Ancestors, if this power is fate, then I accept it wholeheartedly. Let it flow within and do good."

He blocked out the world around him, and reached deep within himself.

His heart pounded in his chest as he tried to channel his abilities.

He felt the room vibrating, and an unseen energy moving on surfaces.

This was not known to others, only Arthur could feel it.

Nicole had thought that Arthur was merely examining her grandfather purse.

With each passing moment, he willed his power to flow, directing it towards the ailing man.

Every strength that left Arthur, made him feel weaker. But he pushed forward.

As he expended a significant amount of his magical energy in an attempt to heal Nicole's uncle, Arthur's strength waned.

The room grew colder, and beads of sweat formed on his forehead.

He could feel his own life force being drained, yet he refused to give up. He was determined to save Mr. Lee.

But as the minutes stretched on, Arthur's trembling body could take no more. With a final surge of effort, he released the last of his energy into Mr. Lee and collapsed on the hospital floor.

"Arthur!" Nicole eyes widened and she quickly rushed to Arthur.

Dr Griffin, who had been standing by the door scoffed and said, "It seems the doctor you brought here also need to be examined. Pathetic."

A nurse rushed into the room and, with Nicole's help, placed Arthur gently on the nearby bed.

He had expended a significant amount of his magical energy, and his body was weak.

"Miss Nicole, do you still want me to help your father? Or is it this fake doctor you trust?"

Nicole bite down on her lips and for a moment she felt guilty for being repulsive towards Griffin earlier.

"Doctor..." She muttered in a low tone but then-

 Arthur coughed.

Arthur slowly began to stir, his sea-blue eyes fluttering open.

Nicole let out a relieved sigh. "Arthur, are you okay?" she asked, her eyes filled with concern.

Arthur managed a weak smile. "I'll be fine," he whispered, his voice raspy. " How's your grandfather?"

Nicole's gaze mellowed and slowly she nodded, "Still the same."

Arthur looked straight at Nicole's grandfather upon hearing what she said. He walked to him and held his hand but then-

No purse!

Arthur's eyes widened as he froze in shock, "What have I done?"

"What is it? What is the problem Arthur?" Nicole quickly stood on her feet upon seeing Arthur's reaction.

Her eyes instantly fell on her grandfather and she rushed to his side. She carefully hold his hand and tried to check his purse but there was none.

"What..." Nicole was shivering, her eyes wells up as it wavered across the room. "What's going on?"

"What is the problem Nicole?" Griffin interrupted and walked to Mr Lee, he checked his purse and the skin on his face instantly wrinkled as he scream-

"What have you done?" He rushed to Arthur and slammed him against the wall. "You've killed my patient!"

Arthur was devastated and had no idea what was happening.

"Didn't it work? It was supposed to!" He thought.

"I warned you Miss Nicole, but you wouldn't listen. I'm calling the police." Griffin dialed the police emergency number but then-

A miraculous moment occurred. Emily's grandfather, Mr. Lee, who had been lying motionless, began to show signs of regaining consciousness. His eyelids fluttered, and he let out a faint groan.

Everyone in the room held their breath, their hearts pounding with hope. Nicole clutched Arthur's hand tightly, and tears welled up in her eyes.

As Mr. Lee slowly opened his eyes, he looked around, his gaze finally settling on Nicole. His wrinkled face broke into a feeble but heartfelt smile.

"Nicole!" His weak voice called out and Nicole hugged him.

She kissed his face and asked, "How are you feeling!"

Nicole didn't bother to hear his response, she hugged him again and her gaze instantly drifted towards Arthur,

"Thank you so much." She muttered with teary eyes.

"Who's he?" Mr Lee asked.

"He is the one who saved you." Nicole was delighted and excitedly introduced Arthur to her grandfather.

"Thank you," Mr. Lee rasped, his voice filled with gratitude.

Tears streamed down Nicole's cheeks as she witnessed the incredible moment. She couldn't find the words to express her gratitude.

Mr. Lee turned to Arthur, his eyes filled with sincerity. "My dear boy, what can I offer you in return? Name your desire."

Arthur, still weak but resolute, shook his head. "Mr. Lee, your granddaughter saved my life when I was at my lowest point. I owe her everything."

Mr. Lee's frail hand reached out to clasp Arthur's, and he nodded, deeply moved by Arthur's selfless act. "Allow me to repay your kindness."
