Phobia For Sword

It has been fifteen years since the incident. Abigail took the child and went to a rural area to live; she had changed her identity to protect herself and the boy and to make sure the boy drew no attention to himself. She developed a medicine for the baby that would block his ability to use any element. She knew the boy's life would be in danger if Mr. Tilo ever finds him.

"Dante!" Abigail called her son for the tenth time. "I wonder where he is now, Dante!" She called again.

"Mrs. Joan," A beautiful teenage girl called Abigail. She no longer bore the name Abigail. When she arrived in the town with a new baby, she told everyone her name was Joan, and that her husband had just died. Everyone welcomed her, and they felt lucky since she became their healer and started helping the little town.

"I saw him with Adam; they said they want to check their trap," the girl explained to Mrs. Joan.

"Thanks, Vida," Mrs. Joan replied to the kind girl who always came to help her with house chores. Vida is a fourteen-year-old beautiful girl with black hair. Though she is only a teenager, Mrs. Joan is certain she will become a very beautiful curvy girl when she becomes an adult.

"I hear you will soon be leaving for the Awakeners Academy," Mrs. Joan inquired.

"Yes, I have awakened as a water user and a healer," Vida answered with a shrug.

"You don't sound happy?"

"I will have to leave my normal school and my friends. I will miss them."

"I am sure they will miss you, but you will still come back. Besides, healers are always treated nicely, especially an elemental healer."

"Yes, I should be happy because my mother wouldn't spend their money to send me to the academy." Healers are always offered a scholarship. Healers are rare and always important. Every time a healer awakens, many academies are willing to offer them a scholarship.

Mrs. Joan, seeing that Vida is sad about leaving her friends behind, decided to cheer her up.

"It is not so bad. Imagine how you will benefit this little town if you become successful. Though the demons rarely invade us, we still have the monsters to worry about. So having an awakener like you will give our little town the protection it needs."

"You're right. I also know that Dante would awaken and join me." Vida smiled.

Mrs. Joan sighed, for she knew the beautiful girl's dream was a far-fetched one.

"Are you sad about leaving school or leaving Dante?" Mrs. Joan teased the girl, who could only blush.

"Let's make dinner; Dante will soon be back," Vida quickly changed the topic, making Mrs. Joan smile.

"Come, Dante, follow us," Adam prompted Dante, but the handsome boy had never seen any need to practice with a sword. Dante was so handsome that the town folks always joked about the town being too small for his radiance. He was a vision of youthful charm and charisma. His face boasted perfectly chiseled features, with a strong, defined jawline that spoke of unwavering determination. High cheekbones added an air of sophistication to his appearance, but it was his eyes that truly captivated anyone who looked at him, deep blue and holding an aura of mystery, just like the ocean. His dark hair, effortlessly tousled, framed his face in a way that seemed almost too perfect to be real. Yet, it was his demeanor that set him apart. With each step, he exuded undeniable confidence and an irresistible magnetic presence. His smile was like a beacon, radiating warmth and charisma, and it had the power to enchant anyone fortunate enough to witness it. He was the kind of teenager who effortlessly commanded attention, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. His two friends often wondered how Adam could exude so much radiance without even trying. At first, they were jealous of him, but later, they gave up on the jealousy since they could never measure up to such brilliance.

"Leave him, Dante has a phobia for swords," Gavin replied to his friend Adam as they continued their sword fight with wooden swords they made.

"I don't need to get strong when I have you two strong friends," Dante replied with a charming smile. Though he couldn't remember anything from his past lives, he always felt that something would change his ordinary life if he picked up a sword. So out of instinct, Dante had always avoided swords, be they wooden or metallic.

"Vida will be joining the Awakeners," Adam said as he defended a strike from Gavin. "I will be joining her too."

"Be realistic, Adam. It's a stroke of luck for Vida to become an awakener. We should be content with having one awakener."

"Why do you think I train?" Adam asked as he knocked the wooden sword out of Gavin's hand and kicked him down.

"I train to become an awakener or strong enough to pass as one," Adam proclaimed, and Dante couldn't help but clap.

"Come on, let's go; I'm already hungry," Gavin said as he stood up and dusted himself off. "Dante, I'm sure your mother will make a great soup with the rabbits."

"Yes, I'm certain she will," Dante smiled as the three friends decided to go home.

Finally, the day Vida would join the academy arrived. A professor from the academy came to take her, but she couldn't stop crying. Since the academy was far from their little town, Vida would be living in the school dormitory.

"It's a good thing, Vida; we are proud of you," Vida's mother said to her. She was a widow, and Vida was her only child. Though she would miss her daughter terribly, she knew this was for the best.

"Don't worry, Vida; we would all be here when you come back," Mrs. Joan consoled Vida.

"I would soon come to join you," Adam bragged.

"I will look after Dante for you," Gavin whispered. He knew of Vida's fondness. Vida smiled and nodded. She kept accepting hugs from the town members since they saw each other as family. She hugged everyone until she reached Dante.

"Smile, kiddo; you're prettiest when you do," Dante said before hugging her.

"Dante." She had a lot to say, but she couldn't find the words. "You always brag about marrying numerous women in the future," Vida swallowed before speaking.

"With your pretty face, I am certain it is possible," Vida broke the hug and wiped her tears. "I won't accept anyone who is not pretty and kind." Vida said with a smile. She stared into the boy's beautiful blue eyes and cursed the day humans accepted polygamy because of the influence of elves and dwarves.

"Be safe," she said as she walked toward the professor.

Dante didn't understand what Vida meant, but he still waved goodbye to her as they all watched her leave with the professor.
