18: Salkatar Prison, Sarania

DAY FOURTEEN

Alora had been counting down for this very day ever since she was captured by Jade. It's all she could talk about for the past two days. It had become an obsession, one driven by anger and vengeance.

Alora sat on her bed letting her mind play all the things she craved to do to Jade. Walna saw her wicked smile as she laid down staring off into the dark abyss that was her mind.

"Hey roomie!", Walna said, "You've been quiet today, What's on your mind?"

"That witch is finally going to get her due.", Alora grew a sinister smile on her face, "Fourteen days in this hell hole because of her. They felt like there were never going to end but finally today is a chance I get to my revenge."

Walna burst out into laughter. Alora turned to Walna with a death like gaze. Walna contained her outburst within a moment's notice.

"Is there something funny to you?", Alora asked.

Walna had never seen Alora so unhinged but yet so calm. It was frightening and it made Walna very uneasy. " You can't be serious.", Walna said, "Alora I've only known you for a few weeks and well I don't think you even want revenge. You see some fairies have a gift of reading the true emotions of anyone."

"So what?", Alora got off her bed and stood nearly face to face with her fairy friend. "So you think you know me, well you don't."

"You are right princess! I don't know you but what I know for an absolute certainty is that you are scared.", Walna said, "I don't know what exactly it is, whether it's Jade or the fact you are scared that this fight you are fighting is a losing one."

Alora had fallen silent. The words of a friend had pierced through her mind and left her at a loss for words. She knew deep down that Walna was right.

"If you think about even fighting Jade you will die. Consider what she did to you mercy and what she did to your friend an example."

"But I have to try.", Alora said.

"That's the thing Alora you don't.", Walna's easy going nature with Alora fizzled away. Alora had never seen Walna this serious, despite all the torture and suffering she has been through, she was always easy going but this time she was serious.

"You aren't the princesses anymore.", she said, "The Saranian monarchy died with your father where his carcass hanged there for days on end."

Before Alora could even get a word out, Layla came to the cell door. She was in her guard get up and she didn't seem like she was in the best of moods. She was at a loss for words. She opened the cell door and walked right in.

"Layla!", Alora shouted.

"Keep your voice down damn it", Layla said "What's wrong with you?"

"Wait!", Walna shouted, "Alora you know her?"

"You are going to get us caught if you two keep on raising your voices like that.", Layla said.

"I'm sorry.", Alora said, "This is my friend Layla and Layla this is Walna."

The two shook hands, a common courtesy shown throughout the Western continent when meeting new friends.

"Layla what's the update?", Alora as eger as child "Is Jade here?", Alora asked. She was yearning to finally get her hands on Jade.

"Yeah she's here.", Layla went to the bars and took a look around the prison halls. There was a group of guards chatting it up and the end of the hall. They didn't have a care in the world.

Layla turned her attention back to Walna and Alora. She was anxious, she couldn't stop moving around and her hands were in a constant shake. Alora had never seen Layla like this, she was always the calm and cool one but she was just an absolute wreck.

"Layla speak."

Layla snapped out of her trance, "Alora I know you want to kill Jade but trust me you can't.", she said.

"You too?", Alora was shocked, "I'm going to have her head before I leave this bloody trench of a prison."

"She killed the warden.", Layla said, "All because he talked back at her." Alora and Walna didn't make a peep, they fell completely silent. "It was like nothing I had ever seen. I've seen and enjoyed some pretty gruesome things but the way she killed him was beyond anything I could ever let my eyes witness."

"What did she do?", Walna asked.

"You ever wonder what would happen if you ever got too close to the sun.", Layla sat down on the bottom bunk, "I don't know how she did it because I've met some powerful mages but this sorcery was on another level. It consumed him from the inside, slowly."

Layla's hands shook even faster. She tried to stop the shaking with her other hand but she kept on shaking.

"He kept on crying for help and I really did want to help but I just froze and watched him burn from the inside.", she said, "I could hear his blood boil and then eventually the heat started slipping out of his body. He just burnt for a long time and we just stood there and watched."

Alora and Walna stood there with their jaws dropped. Layla just couldn't stop shaking. She smacked her arm hoping that the shaking would stop.

"We can take her.", Alora said.

"Are you mad?", Walna was shocked, "You didn't hear what she just said. She did that to her own men what more the last heir to the Saranian throne?"

"Come on you two cant be serious.", Alora raised her voice, "That's why she needs to be killed. She's too powerful she needs to be stopped. Right now!"

"Alora.", Layla said, "Walna is right. In as much as Jade needs to be done away with you carry with you the hope of our people. If we lose you to the Vallathians then all the work we have all put in for the past two years goes to shit."

Alora knew her friends were right. The fight against the Vallathians was the main priority at the end of the day. Too many people had died for their belief in her.

"So what's the plan?", she asked.

"So in the meeting she said she was spending the night here in the prison and appoint a new warden in the morning."

"So we break out while she's asleep?", Walna asked.

"Exactly!", Layla said, "I will pass by here when it's time to do bedcheck and then we make our escape. Agreed?"

"Agreed."
