Chapter 8

Hearing that, Brian turned to his men and let out a smirk.

“He's brave, isn't he?" He asked, amusingly. The latter nodded, all with an entertained smirk.

"Bravery leading to death.”

"Hahaha.”

The men laughed.

Brian then turned to face Kane. His face turned dark.

"Hey, you crazy?” He asked, his tone hardening. "I don't care to know who you are, but I want you to disappear now. Just as you came.”

No movement.

Kane didn't even bother to look at his face.

His fist tightened.

"I'm talking to you,” he roared, eyes turning red.

Kane lifted his head. Just a bit and slowly.

"I said, stand up and disappear!”

No answer immediately.

Then a second passed and…..

"That's what you should do. Not me," Kane finally responded. “This is my house."

Brian blinked, taken aback by his response.

His men exchanged looks.

Just then..

Brian crashed out. "How dare you talk back at me!” Without any other word, he turned, grabbed a bottle from one of his men, weighed it at Kane's level, and then lunged.

The bottle exploded on Kane's head, sending shattered glass flying across the room.

Onlookers who had gathered to watch flinched. Some pushed their children inside while some drew them to themselves.

However, Kane didn't flinch.

It was as if nothing had happened to him.

Brian's expression changed, replaced with something else. Not totally terror, but shock.

He stared at Kane who hadn't made any movement.

Then a tilt.

"Trying to act tough?” He uttered, maintaining a steady voice despite being under fear. "I'll show you.”

With that, he turned and without a word, a baton was dropped onto his palm.

His fist tightened against it.

Then, he charged forward, baton well positioned, aiming toward Kane's forehead. But as he reached, about to strike…..something happened.

Kane shifted, dodging slightly without necessarily stealing Brian a glance.

A miss.

The baton struck through the empty air.

Brian almost lost his balance.

But he stood, turned, and clutched his lips, still gripping the baton.

“How dare you! I'll kill you now!” He barked then immediately charged toward Kane again.

However, something happened this time….

Kane lifted his head. He calculated Brian's move instantly. But the latter, consumed with rage, was only aiming at Kane's forehead with his baton.

As he got closer, ready to strike.

Kane lifted his hand and drove a fist.

Toom!

The sound echoed in the room. The impact was undeniably dangerous. The punch connected with Brian's neck, sending his head turning.

“Jesussss!" Brian shouted in agony, as he crashed on the ground far away with a loud thud, clutching the spot.

Blood gushed out instantly.

He spat blood to the ground. Dislodged teeth followed.

"Holy shit!” One of his men mumbled, face twitched with disgust.

"What the fuck are you standing there for?" Brian snarled, blood filling his mouth and staining his lips. He spat a mouthful onto the floor before roaring, "Kill the bastard!"

His men with shattered confidence after seeing what had been done to their Boss, looked at each other, hesitating, but then something crept in.

Not courage. Something they themselves couldn't explain.

Maybe…loyalty, if they want to say.

Their boss had been beaten by someone and they couldn't just fold their arms and watch.

Then—

“You did that to my Boss? I'll end you! Today!" One man roared then dashed with a baton toward Kane.

As he swung the baton to strike Kane, the latter bent his head, dodging. Then he turned swiftly and seized the man by the neck.

The weight of the grip was so powerful that the man's grip around his baton began to loosen and subsequently…..dropped down to the ground.

The man's eyes swung open as Kane's grip tightened, already losing his breath. He kicked the empty, feeling suffocated.

He tried to mutter words but couldn't.

"What if I end you like you wanted to?” Kane's voice came out coldly.

The man shook his head as a response.

Then it was too late.

Kane's expression darkened and without a second sentence, he lowered the man and then drove a powerful kick into his stomach.

The man flew and crashed against the wall then scrambled down to the ground.

He started to cough.

Blood flowed out.

The last two men stopped completely in their tracks, eyes filled with heavy fear.

They looked at each other, as if deciding whether or not to go.

Then a roar came out.

"Bastards!” Brian still struggling on the ground, thundered, nose flaring with anger. "He's just one man! Two of you attack him!”

One picked boldness immediately, but the other was reluctant.

The one who picked courage, retrieved a nearby rod, then dashed toward Kane.

But as he swung the rod, Kane sidestepped, and he missed. He turned quickly with the rod, about to go the second time, however, it was too late.

Kane drove a fist to his chest.

Not twice. But just twice.

The man flew around the room and crashed to the ground.

Immediately….

Movement gone.

Breath ceased.

The earlier vibrant man….now dead.

Stunned silence rippled the room.

No one dared utter any word.

Only the man's rod was making a noise while bouncing against the ground beside him.

Eyes moved from the now-dead man then to Kane. Just like that for almost a minute.

Kane turned, his gaze now on the last man standing. He intentionally cracked his knuckles. “Wanna give it a try too?" He asked. “Come on." He beckoned with a finger.

However, the last man dropped to his knees and began to crawl forward, his forehead breaking with serious sweat.

“Please, don't kill me," he sobbed, hands raised in total surrender. “We made a terrible mistake, please, forgive us. Show us your mercy."

While he was still sobbing for forgiveness, towering men, heavily built, all dressed in black suits, marched into the room and bowed their heads.

The man paused. All eyes on these men.

Amongst the men in black suits, stood a lady seeming to be in her early thirties, nicely dressed. She stepped forward with a tablet in her hand and bowed her head also.

“We found you, Master Kane," she announced then added. “Master Bo Chen wants to see you."

Chapter 9Kane winked. The name sounded familiar to him. But he couldn't instantly tell or remember where he had heard such a name. He waved it off and straightened his posture. “Bo Chen?" He repeated. “Who's that?" The lady looked up slightly. “The old man from the prison. The one who taught you what you know now." Boom! The word struck. He remembered. He shifted. "You mean Bo Chen, the old man from the prison?” The lady tilted her head. "Yes,” she confirmed. "Where's he?” Kane quickly asked. The lady's lips parted with a smile. “That's why we're here," she said. “He sent us to bring you to him." Kane narrowed his eyes between the men and the lady before finally settling them on the lady. A trace of doubt and suspicion crossed his face. Bo Chen had suddenly disappeared from the prison with no trace of where he was. And suddenly, he's sending people to bring him?How did he even know he was out of prison? Kane questioned himself in his mind. Then another thought came. What

Some mothers backed their children, pressing the others against themselves while staying focused. The compound was busy with chores. Just then—A car pulled over and stopped. Chores stopped. Some stood straight to scan the car. A trace of fear was slowly creeping onto their faces. Some parents were secretly pulling their children closer, whispering to them to hurry inside. At that moment while they were watching, a tall, calm figure stepped down from the car. It was Kane Wade. And this is his hometown. He hadn't forgotten it. He took in the place briefly before pulling out a bill from the money Williams Johnson had given him and handing it to the driver. He turned and started to walk toward a particular building. All eyes followed him, watching in silence. Kane then paused. In front of him stood an abandoned building. The building was bui
