“Captain,” Old Lady Chen forced a smile. “My granddaughter and her husband are already on the way. Surely, there’s no need to delay the rest of us since the invitation is here.”

“I’m sorry,” the captain responded casually. “Those were my orders.”

“This is ridiculous!” Elias spat angrily. “You’re deliberately making things difficult for us.”

The captain glanced at him and said calmly, “Everyone is going through the same protocol, Mr. Chen.”

Whispers spread through the banquet entrance as more guests arrived, only to find the prestigious Chen family standing helplessly by the door.

“Isn’t that the Chen family?”

“Yes. I thought Giselle Chen had said the Zhao family had invited them personally. Why are they not allowed inside?”

“Perhaps, the invite is a fake.”

Old Lady Chen’s fingers tightened around her cane until her knuckles became white as the whispers reached her ears.

Dipping her free hand into her purse, she brought out a hundred dollar bill and tried shoving it into the guard’s hand.

Smiling, she said, “I hope we can come to a mutual agreement after all we are all family.”

The captain frowned, taking away his hand swiftly, leaving hers hanging.

“Old Lady Chen, please do not put me in a difficult position,” he said, stepping back.

“Did you see that? Oh my Lord,” One of the guests exclaimed.

“See what?”

“Giselle just tried to bribe the captain.”

“She must be that desperate to attend the banquet then, how embarrassing…”

Old Lady Chen’s face turned red by both the refusal and the disgust in the voices of the guests.

Another round of guests approached the entrance and the guards immediately stepped aside.

“Welcome, Chairman Liu.”

The Liu family walked into the banquet halls without any restrictions. Elias’s face darkened. They have been standing here for over ten minutes, yet everyone else had entered with no hassle.

“This is nonsense!”

Elias seemed to snap as he charged towards the entrance but the guards held him back.

“Enough of this!” The captain roared. “Old Lady Chen, please lead your family down. You’re blocking the entrance and I wouldn’t mind using force.”

Just as the guards were about to throw them out, a broken sedan slowly rattled through the gates. The noise from the car was so loud that everyone’s attention was diverted towards it.

Odessa and Riven stepped out of the car.

“About damn time,” Alyssa swore underneath her breath, shoving her hand away from the a guard’s grip.

“What kept you guys so long? They were just about to throw us out!” Elias said through gritted teeth.

“The car broke down,” Odessa responded simply.

The captain bowed deeply to the couple as they approached.

“Mr. Riven Wei, Ms. Odessa, welcome. The banquet awaits,” he greeted.

Riven nodded and the guards led them in. Just as the Chen family was also about to follow them inside, they were stopped again.

“What are you doing?” This time it was Aurelius’ turn to act annoyed. “They are already inside, why are you stopping us?”

The captain’s face held no sign of friendliness as he spoke. “The invitation grants entrance only to the invited couple. The Chen family may only attend if Mr. Wei permits them.”

Old Lady Chen, whose face had almost turned purple due to the series of embarrassment she had suffered in one night turned towards Odessa.

Swallowing her remaining pride, she said in a not-so friendly tone.

“Odessa, we have been standing out for a long time. Surely, you won’t let us watch you go in. Persuade your husband to let us in.”

Before Odessa could speak, Riven cuts in.

“I will only let you in on one condition.”

Old Lady Chen’s brows shot up with confusion. Odessa looked up at her husband.

“Riven, don’t cause anymore trouble,” she muttered.

Riven ignored her and prodded. “Do you agree?”

“What condition?” Old Lady Chen said through gritted teeth.

“You will keep to your promise of letting Odessa keep her role as the manager of the Aurora’s Corporation.”

Old Lady Chen felt her anger boil over. She had almost forgotten about her words the day before. Truthfully, she had never wanted Odessa to be the manager not after the humiliation she had just suffered.

It was all Odessa’s fault. She definitely knew they would be stopped at the entrance and still gave them the invitation to embarrass them in public!

And now she was instigating her husband to work in her favor. Old Lady Chen gritted her teeth before responding.

“Fine.”

Riven gave a quick nod to the captain and the Chen family was allowed in. Elias, on the other hand had his fists clenched as he glared daggers at the back of the couple.

Why do they have to be in their shadow?

And now, they have made Old Lady Chen give a promise in public that the position he was supposed to have will be given to Odessa.

His hatred and rage grew even more.

Just as he was about to step in, an attendant zeroed his eyes on the suit he was wearing. His expression darkened instantly.

“Mr. Chen, where did you get the ceremonial suit prepared exclusively for Mr. Wei?!”

Orion stared straight at Harold. “Mr. Geng, are you purposely attacking me for some reason?”Harold opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by him.“Riven invited me here and as sworn brothers I decided to honor his invitation,” he added.“Riven? How can this low life get an invite?” Valentin said with disbelief. Riven ignored him and handed the security guard his invitation card. Everyone watched closely as they checked the authenticity of the invitation card.“Mr. Zhao, Mr. Wei, you may go in,” the security guard said respectfully.“What?! Did you check the card very well?” Valentin said, wide eyed. “That invitation has to be a fake.”Riven’s brow furrowed slightly. “Mr. Gao, are you trying to say the guards are incompetent? If that’s what you are implying then you might as well be insulting the Wang family who made the arrangements.”“You…!” Valentin went breet red. “That’s not what I meant!”“That’s enough,” the chief security guard cuts in. “Mr. Gao, you are here without an

Your salesperson authorized the transaction and if you really think I stole the Villa, why haven’t I be thrown out yet?” Riven asked with a raised brow.Valentin’s face went red as he bit hard on his lower lip.Riven’s lips curled up in a smirk.“Or has your asslicking gone from bad to worse in a matter of days.”“You…!” Valentin was furious. What right does this man have to speak to me in that manner?Harold exhaled a sharp breath.“Forget it. The Zhao family has issues with the Xu family especially because of this act so naturally we won’t be receiving invitations from them. My grandfather cut ties with them before he died.”Riven gave an understanding nod. “Alright. Meanwhile, outside the conference room the people who had left after Desmond Liu did surrounded him.“Mr. Liu, wasn’t your actions impulsive right now? What if she reports this to the headquarters, we will be implicated,” One of them said with fear in his eyes.“Are you scared?” Desmond asked with a cold scoff. “She can’t do anything to me. The company needs me and she knows it. All we should be doing right now is looking for ways to frustrate her into leaving.”“That’s true, Mr. Liu. Some of us are older than her and we have more experience. What right does she think she has to lead the company?” Another chimed in with hatred coating his voice. “Good thinking, Zane,” Desmond said with a smile. “This is the kind of mentality all of us should be having. Elias’ face suddenly went sullen. Although they had migrated from Aurora Corporation to Chen group and were trying to build it up, they had encountered many difficulties on the way.“Grandma, Davis Corporation called us to tell us that they are terminating their contract with us. They are the twentieth company that wants to terminate cooperation with us over the past few days.”“Most of these people have heard about our riff with the Sterling Corporation and they are turning their backs on us,” Alyssa sulked.“This is embarrassing. They are all just a bunch of cowards. Davis Corporation used to be worse than the Chen group and they sucked up to us to obtain a cooperation with us and now, they are dumping us,” Elias spat out angrily, forgetting the now receding pain on his cheeks.“Enough. This is how life works and there’s nothing to be angry about,” Old Lady Chen spoke. “The person responsible for all this is Odessa and the important thing that should be on our minds is getting the
