Chapter 1: Sovereign's Sigil
A loud bang on the door awoke Nathan from his sleep. Groaning, he sat up on the thin, creaky mattress. His bedroom was little more than a storage closet: small, full of old boxes, and a broken fan that groaned louder than he did. The only light came from a small window covered with newspapers to block out the cold. He rubbed his eyes and looked at the time on his cheap phone. Five-thirty in the morning.
"Nathan!" The voice outside the door was sharp and impatient. He recognized it instantly. Madam Rose, his mother-in-law. "Are you deaf? Get up and make breakfast!"
Nathan huffed, then swung his legs swiftly over the bed. He didn't want to give her reason to yell any louder. Pulling on a shirt and pants, he stepped out into the hall, his head low. Madam Rose was waiting for him, her arms folded, face twisted in her usual frown.
You're slower than a snail," she snapped. "If you weren't married to my daughter, I'd have thrown you out long ago. Useless boy."
"Yes, ma'am," Nathan murmured, walking past her to the kitchen.
The kitchen was clean, not because anyone bothered to clean it, but because Nathan cleaned it every night after dinner. He began preparing breakfast appropriately to avoid another lecture. On autopilot, his hands slid across the frying eggs, boiling water for tea while his mind wandered somewhere else.
Two years back, life was different, not better. He had been a bartender, surviving on tiny apartments or streets when he couldn't pay the rent. His mother's death had destroyed him, and he was left with literally nothing. Then Sophia showed up, this drop-dead-gorgeous, confident woman, telling him she wanted to marry him. He'd thought it was some cruel joke at first, but she was dead serious. Her family had given a reluctant agreement, though they never gave up making him remember that he didn't belong there.
"Don't burn the eggs," Madam Rose shouted, pulling him out of his reverie.
"I won't," Nathan replied, flipping them onto plates.
The table laid, he turned to greet the rest of the family as they came in. Sophia, her hair set perfectly, her clothes immaculate, gave him a slight formal nod as she took her seat. Her father, Mr. Clarke, and her brother, Ethan, followed; neither even acknowledged Nathan's presence.
As they ate, Nathan stood by the wall, hands clasped in front of him. He had learned early on that sitting with them was not allowed.
"Nathan, the tea is too weak," Ethan said, pushing his cup away.
"Sorry, sir," Nathan said, stepping forward to take the cup.
"Don't apologize. Just do better," Ethan muttered.
Nathan nodded and retreated back to the kitchen to fix another cup. By the time breakfast was done, he was tired, but there was no time to rest as he had to go to work.
Sophia handed him his bag as he left, her eyes evading his. "Don't come home late," she said in a hushed tone.
"Yes, Sophia," he replied with a forced small smile.
The ride to Brookstone Enterprises was long and crowded; Nathan stood near the back, holding onto a pole as the vehicle jerked and rattled through the streets. He was used to this-standing for hours, being jostled by strangers. It was just another part of his life.
He walked into the office, where the receptionist gave him no more than a cursory acknowledgment, let alone a second glance, as he walked by. The IT department was already up and running: chatting, laughing, and all that other stuff. Nathan took a seat at his desk-a small nook near the printer-and turned on his computer.
"Nathan!" a loud voice called out. Turning, he saw Margo, his boss, power-walking toward him.
"Yes, ma'am?" he said, rising to his feet quickly.
Why are you just sitting there?" she snapped. "Do you think we pay you to relax?"
"I was just about to—"
"Save it. I need you to run these reports to the finance department," she said, dumping a stack of papers on his desk.
"Right away," Nathan said, picking up the papers and heading to the elevator.
The finance department was on the tenth floor, and as always, employees there almost ignored his presence. He handed the reports to the first person he saw and hastened out not to catch sneers and comments.
He tried focusing on his work back at his desk, but his mind kept wandering. It went to his mother, the symbol she used to draw for him a very rare and intricate design where a circle was intertwined with three crescent moons. She identified it with his father, but she never explained how.
"Nathan!" Margo's voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
"Yes, ma'am?" he replied as he rose again.
Were you daydreaming?" she asked, her eyes narrowing.
"No, I was just-"
"Don't lie to me!" she shouted. Before he could react, her hand came down hard on his face. The slap stung, but Nathan didn't move.
"You're useless," Margo said. "Go to the control room and fix the server."
Nathan hesitated. "I've never worked on the server before," he said quietly.
"Figure it out," she snapped. "Just get out of my sight.
Nathan nodded and left, his cheek aflame. The control room was down in the basement-chilly and dimly lit, the humming of machinery making it seem almost alive. He went inside and approached one of the bigger servers, clueless as to which one he should start looking for.
Opening the panel in the control, a mark caught his eye: carved into the side of this server was a symbol.
Nathan froze. It was the same symbol his mother used to draw-the circle and crescent moons. His heart pounded as he traced the design with his finger.
"What is this doing here?" he whispered out loud.
The symbol brought a flood of memories back. He could almost hear his mother's voice, soft and from afar, saying, "If you ever see this, remember it's a part of you. It's your father's legacy."
Nathan stepped backward, trying to take on board how important it might be. More than just some design, this was a clue-a missing bit of something he wasn't even looking for.
For the first time in years, something unfamiliar lit inside Nathan: a spark of hope. Without knowing what this sigil could actually mean, or even why it would be there, he felt an unnerving determination build.

The Tycoon Heir Chapter 318: Prison Break 1
The officer laughed sarcastically. “Let's see how you play that out.” The officer was so sure of his plan. However, it hadn't yet been reviewed what he had in mind for how he was going to trap Fiona and Sophia.Sophia then shifted her gaze to Fiona. “You know what to do—kill all of them.” Fiona nodded, then stepped forward. She clenched her fist and tried to harness fire to hurl it toward the men, whose guns were pointing toward them. And after trying, she noticed it was unresponsive.Sophia, noticing this, became even more horrified. The officer sneered darkly. “You don't have even a single chance. This place is built with mutant cancellation, which means anybody who had set foot in this specific terrain that has superpowers would immediately become void and unresponsive.” Sophia then turned her back and began spreading towards the prison where Valtor was. Then the men tried to shoot, but the officer waved his hands in the air and stopped them. “If you shoot now, you will end up

The Tycoon Heir Chapter 317: Dealing with a fake
Sophia paused, then slightly relaxed her back against the prison walls. “She's about to take over. I can't imagine that she's this strong. I doubt I will ever reach my main nobody and transfuse my consciousness into it before she finally takes back control of her body,” Sophia thought inwardly. Valtor, who is controlling Sophia's body, discovered that she was already taking control; he wasn't expecting her mind to be that strong. And he has one choice left for him now, and the choice is a massive stake. The only way he could slow down Sophia, the process of taking control over her body, was to try to kill her; the pain would force her consciousness to retreat, giving Valtor more time to reach his main body in the prison cell.Sophia pulled out a dagger, then raised it upwards, and forcefully stabbed it into her stomach. She winced in pain, and blood dropped from the injuries. She clenched her fist, her gaze getting blurred. “With this, now I have the advantage here. But if I'm not

The Tycoon Heir Chapter 316: Prison break
Sophia leaned forward. “Tell them that it's just some technical issues and that everything is fine, okay? If you refuse to do as I have said, I will have no other choice but to kill you in the most cold-blooded way.” Out of fear, the security man decided to do as Sophia had asked. “Sir, copy, sir, it's simply a technical issue. Everything is fine over here,” the man spoke into the phone. After the call was over, Sophia pushed her hands over the security man's hair and then caressed it softly with a smile tugging on her lips. “Good boy, don't worry, I won't kill you, okay?” Hearing Sophia's calm voice, the man lowered his guard, thinking he was saved.Sophia then leaned closer to the man, her face facing his and her lips shifting to a sneer. “I will make you survive in one condition: only if you tell me how this prison setting is. I would like to break someone out.” The security man freezes. Though he had expected that. He pushed his hands to the phone in his pocket, wanting to s

The Tycoon Heir Chapter 315: Satisfy their Urge
Fiona's fist clenched, and her hands began to glow intensely red. And after harnessing the heat from the earth, she stretched her hands towards the mansion, and in that instant. Buzz!Flames engulfed her hands and hurled straight to the mansion; the mansion burst into flames. Shinda, who had just regained consciousness, stared. “No, what about Hazel? She might be inside, and also the kid. No, I have to save them.” Shinda tried to stand from the ground, but it was too late. And apart from that, he couldn't even move his hands or his legs. He was completely paralyzed. Tears rolled down from Shinda's eyes as he saw the entire mansion engulfed in total flames. His fear was that Hazel could be sleeping and must not have noticed all that was happening. The same thing applied to Amanda. “Ahhhhh, damn you,” Shinda gritted his teeth as he shouted in anguish. Sophia walked toward Shinda, then used her foot and kicked him in the mouth. “You fool, shut the hell up. Do you want to deafen me

The Tycoon Heir Chapter 314: Burning the Mansion
On reaching the door, it burst open, flying into the air. Shinda quickly took cover, and the metallic steel of the door crashed into his body. The door was so huge that Shinda wondered how it could be brought down that easily. Shinda knew even an explosive couldn't make such a thing possible. As the debris cleared off, before Shinda were Sophia and Fiona, standing firm, with Fiona's hands glowing red as if radiating a high vortex of heat energy from her body channeling to her hands. It was then did Shinda realize that the huge door flung towards him was indeed brought down by Fiona. “Shit, what's happening? Could it be what I am thinking?” Shinda knew that Fiona had fluid on her body that was made by Valtor, but he wasn't expecting it to give her superpowers that could take down a heavy door of that size. “Oooh boy, it looks like we have another threat in front of us,” Sophia sneered, then turned and faced Fiona. “Why not put him in his place, take him down, okay?” As soon as th

The Tycoon Heir Chapter 313: Setting Her Free
“I don't believe you… How on earth do you think I will ever believe what you are saying, let alone follow you to wherever you are suggesting?” Fiona yelled at Sophia, flaring her fist to punch her right in the face. Sophia sighed deeply before raising her gaze at Fiona. “It looks like we have to do this the hard way. Valtor needs you, and I'm not leaving you here.” “Valtor, you say?” Fiona's brow arched in anger. “I knew it; it was that bastard who had sent you here all along. He is the reason I have gone insane; the fluid that runs in my brain is what has made me hurt my daughter once.” “And that fluid is what you will use to save Valtor. I'm not taking any suggestions from you. Now, stand, let's go,” Sophia instructed sharply. “You think you could just command me, like a Dracula, to rise and follow you, you bitch? Get lost. And I think this is the right time to call to the attention of Hazel. She needs to tell me why she has allowed a lunatic like you here.” Sophia then scoffe
