CHAPTER 6

The next morning, Abraham woke up with a start because Marge was literally banging his head with her walking stick. Abraham sat up as he rubbed his head,

“Can you wake me up like a normal person?” Abraham asked.

Marge chuckled,

“I will, if you weren’t someone who is like cooking oil when sleeping! Get up and change your clothes, go down and eat breakfast. We’re going to go to the guild hall today.” Says Marge as she went down ahead of Abraham.

After changing clothes, Abraham went down to eat a little breakfast. A simple loaf of bread and milk is what their breakfast for today. As they ate while dodging plates, Abraham looked at Marge who was reading newspapers again,

“What work would I have in that hall?” Vincent asked.

“You’ll know when we get there. I pulled some strings of mine to get you in that a guild. No matter what job it is, take it. Because it will help you increase your knowledge about being an adventurer. And if you’re lucky enough, then you can become an adventurer in no time. Eat fast, quickly!” Marge sighed.

Abraham let out a deep exhale as he just ate his breakfast. Once they were done, they immediately went to the guild hall which is at the center of this town. A big establishment that serves as the base of operations for the adventurer’s guild. The two entered and it was full of adventurers. Some are drinking, eating and arguing, while some are exchanging the drops they got from monsters, claiming their prizes from their jobs that has been completed, and the others are at the job board and was looking for a job to accept. Abraham and Marge approached a reception desk that doesn’t have a line,

“What can I do for—” greeted an elf girl with green hair and purple eyes as she looked up to see Marge, “Oh, Miss Marge! The guild master is waiting for you at his office!” the beautiful elf girl added as she smiled at the two.

Taken aback because of her beauty, Marge went on to climb the stairs, while Abraham stayed in front of the desk and looking at the girl with sparkles in his eyes

“What’s your name, beauty?” Abraham asked the girl.

The girl turned red, as she saw this handsome and hot man standing in front of her,

“T-The name’s Kristine, sir.” Says the stuttering girl as Abraham just stared at how beautiful she is.

Marge looked back as she sighed because she knew something was wrong. She then climbed down the stairs to see that the idiot is hitting on an elven girl. Marge then approached Abraham as she pulled his ear and dragged him up the stairs,

“Let’s go out sometimes!” Abraham yelled as Marge slapped his mouth.

Marge let go of the ear as they then walked down a hallway that has this black and white carpet. They stood in front of this big oak door as Abraham rubbed his red ear. Marge knocked on the door and they waited for someone to answer it. And then, the door opened as smoke came out of the room. Then, a silhouette of a big, muscular man appeared from inside the room,

“Marge?” asked a very deep voice.

“Yes, and please don’t go around and do that form. You’re just another old man.” Marge sighed as the smoke disappeared and lights turned on inside the room.

This small old man suddenly went out the room. He has this insane mustache and his hands are behind his back,

“Oh, Marge! Come in, come in!” squeaked the old man.

Abraham pulled his lip corner up on his left side as he was intimidated by small old man. The three went in as the door behind them closed. They entered this big office that has some women sitting on a couch and was covering themselves with a blanket. That could only mean one thing. This old man and those beautiful girls are having it, that means the old man still got some appeal in him. Marge sighed in disappointment as she is now wondering if it’s really a right decision to drop this perverted boy right here and let him be under the care of some pervert also. Things might get worse, especially when Abraham is literally winking at the girls and the old man and Abraham are already in good terms as both of them are now looking at the girls. Abraham was crouching while his arm is around the old man as both their noses bleed at the sight of those gorgeous women. Marge got pissed as she hammered the heads of the two perverts.

“Eryx! We’ve come here to discuss something, not to get all collaborative with a boy who is as perverted as you!” yelled Marge.

The old man whose name is Eryx stood up while having a lump on his head because of Marge. He levitated across the room as he sat on his chair over his desk. He cleared his throat, while Marge forced Abraham to listen to Eryx as she then made a barrier that will not allow them to see those girls.

“So, this is Filbert’s son, eh? Sit down and let’s talk,”

Abraham then sat on a chair in front of the desk while Marge is sitting also in front of him. Eryx then took out some papers from his desk and then there’s this crystal ball that he placed on his desk. It was an aptitude crystal. A crystal that determines the ranks or classes of adventurers. In short, it’s kind of the first step an aspiring adventurer should take before going into an examination that is held yearly.

“Kindly place your hand on the ball so we can move to the main goal of this meeting.” Says Eryx as Abraham then placed his hand on the crystal ball.

Erux instructed Abraham to pour at least some a percent of his mana into the ball to determine his current rank. But this test won’t be part of his adventurer’s test, since this is just like a normal application way for people who will work here, other than being an adventurer. Abraham then poured some of his mana in it, as lightning bolts appeared inside of it. Eryx was impressed as this kingdom never had a lightning mage, not to mention that he is a child of Filbert and is part of the great household of Warlock. However, what Eryx saw in the crystal ball determined Abraham’s current rank. Abraham removed his hand and Eryx put the crystal back into his desk. He then looked Abraham in the eyes,

“Abraham Warlock, your current rank is E class, no rank in the guild yet since you’re not an official adventurer. But in the terms of being an employee with that class, then you’re definitely the last person. Let me just harshly say that you have a powerful element, but you’re not powerful yourself. Which means, being an adventurer is not possible for you, yet. But you’ll get stronger, I believe it, and believe in yourself also.” Eryx explained.

Abraham looked at his lap as he felt frustrated by this revelation. He has been training for years on how to use magic, and yet, it’s still not enough to make him an adventurer. But that doesn’t mean he’ll lose hope. More training, and he’ll be good to go next year. Marge, who suddenly noticed the gloomy expression of Abraham suddenly kicked him in the knees,

“Hey! You’re here to not be an adventurer but to work to atone for your perverseness. If you don’t work here, then the mayor will be forced to banish you. It’s too early for you to be an adventurer, just trust the process and keep training.” Says Marge trying to lighten up Abraham’s mood.

And it worked perfectly. As Abraham looked at the ceiling and asked Eryx, who is the guild master of the guild of this town. It turns out that Abraham will work as a server in the hall. Serving adventurers food, drinks, cleaning and many more will be his job. And Eryx assured him that Abraham will learn a lot from the stories of the adventurers in this guild. And he’ll be updated on everything that is happening in the kingdom. Eryx then allowed Abraham to train with him when Eryx is bored, and if Abraham’s lucky, maybe one of the strongest adventurers here takes interest in him and bring him under their wings. That’s the benefits of Abraham’s job. Since he has no choice or whatsoever, he just agreed with the deal and agreed to work in this guild, not as an adventurer, but as a server, which is literally a waiter.

“Now that everything is taken care of, Abraham, go to the reception desk and ask to be escorted to the room reserved for the employees so we can have you wear your uniform and start immediately. No hitting on the girls in this guild. But outside the guild is fine. Well, you should go.” Eryx said as he then disappeared out of thin air.

The barrier that Marge created become undone as they then saw Eryx already flirting with the women who were giggling. Abraham, who is jealous, got dragged out of the office again by Marge. She let go of him once they were out as the door shuts behind them. They went down to the reception desk as Marge then left Abraham alone since he’s old enough to handle himself now. As Abraham went to the desk, he saw his father picking a job from the job board,

“Abe?!” called Filbert as he then approached his son and then wrapped his arms around his neck.

“So, you’re finally going to work here. But before you change into your employee uniform, let me introduce you to my friends here.” Says Filbert as he then toured Abraham around the guild.

And to Abraham, it’s great to know them right now. Because someday, Abraham Warlock himself will be an adventurer. But for now, he is just a simple server that has something waiting for him underneath the hall.
