Around the side of the light source, a gun barrel that was roughly pointing in their general direction came into view.

Richard sprayed his flashlight into the darkness as he pushed open the door to a different room and let the light slowly arc across the darkness.This room, like the other half-dozen or so he'd checked, had a few scattered chairs and other furniture, some desks and lab equipment, an open cabinet, and a lot of empty space—at least of anything living.
