Chapter 6

"Into the back!," yells Noah.Into the rear!as well as hardware for a door behind the counter.

The monster suffered immense pain from the three hollow-point rifle rounds lodged in its chest.Although the policewoman's pistol shots aren't nearly as painful, they are certain to be the same.It no longer just wants to eat and find its family, as it did when it attacked the people who did it harm.It now seeks vengeance as well.It would have approached the people and barked at them or begged for food when it was smaller and had four legs.It now rushes forward with its claws outstretched.

Scott follows the small policeman for the back door, unarmed and unwilling to be acquainted with those bone daggers.

Before realizing that his weapon is useless, the policewoman fires a few more shots.

Before a garbled scream prompts his to look back, Scott reaches for the door. The monster raises the woman into the air after piercing his chest with its claws. The woman attacks the piercing bones in his body with his last breath. Before the monster returns its claws, he lets out one last breath.

Astrid feels a mix of grief and fear as the woman's limp body hits the floor with a dull thud.he longs to yell "No!"However, as the mad yellow eyes of the creature focus on his like lasers, the word becomes stuck in his throat.

It moves very quickly.Faster than Scott would have anticipated from a large object moving.he doesn't even know what's going on because it closes the gap between them so quickly.Fear fills his ears as his brain detects the lightning-fast claws coming at his and realizes that it is too late to dodge. Before the door closes in front of Astrid's face, the sharp pieces of bone are almost inside his.The beast slams into it at full speed with a loud bang.Despite shaking, the steel door holds.

Scott stands frozen as the monster throws itself against the door once more.he is terrified by the fact that he has been close to death twice within the last few hours.

The animal tries to break through the barrier once more. The hinges become loose and nearly fall off the wall, but they manage to withstand the blow once more. The creature makes three attempts before grunting at the door. They then hear it leave.

Scott gets up and stands.he screams "Ahhhh" while covering his face with his hands. It's good to let go of the fear. When he realizes, "I almost died," the crushing weight of his own mortality falls on his like an anvil. It almost killed me because I hesitated for so little time!As the image of the monster slamming its claws into his comes to mind, he shudders. As the monster inhales its foul, warm, and moist breath into his face, he almost feels the cold bone in his abdomen as death embraces his.

he blinks and shakes off the horrible thought.he takes a short, sharp breath before looking around the room.Except for a small window above them that lets some light in, the room is almost completely dark.he can make out shelves along the walls and a table in the middle of the small room in the gloomy twilight.A red shimmer provides Astrid with approximate outlines of the things in the dim areas whose his normal sight cannot see.

A red glow that is significantly more potent than that produced by everything else highlights the small policeman. On the other side of the small room, he is frantically trying to open a door.

Scott says, "Thanks for saving my life," which causes him to stop pulling on the handle and concentrate on his.

"What took place with my partner?"As if he already knew the answer, Noah's voice quivers.

His inquiry is answered by a wet ripping sound emanating from the door's opposite side.

He wipes his face with his fingers and whispers, "God..."They end in tiny claws and are thin and small.Similar to a raccoon's.

Scott transforms his fear into determination, despite the fact that he appears terrified.he squeezes through the clutter in the room and tries to open the door, determined not to be attacked by the monster on the side.It does not move.

Scott lets out a growl of rage.he yells "damn" and kicks the door open.

Noah speaks softly and quietly.hise, we're going to die.It is going to break down that door and eat us alive as soon as it finishes ripping apart my partner.

When Scottturn turns to look at him, he notices that his pistol is still carried over his shoulder in its holster.Have you still got your gun?he says more than he asks.

He responds, "Yes, but we both know it won't help us," with a grunt. When my partner shot it, that thing didn't even flinch.

"Not against that thing, but we could just shoot out the lock and bang," Astrid's eyes sparkle. We're done.

He gives a head shake. That will not be successful. If I had a shotgun, we could...

Yes, it will.I'll try it if you give me the gun, if you don't want to."

After letting out a sigh, he raises his gun and stands in front of the door.Scott covers his ears as he raises his small shoulders and points the weapon at the lock.

After a second loud bang from the gun, the door is hit by a loud ping from the bullet.Astrid hears the gunshot even through his hands. It's even worse for the small police officer. He prepared for the shot by bracing himself, but the small explosion still makes him flinch because his new, more sensitive ears are overwhelmed.

Scott quickly does to the door. The mechanism is being bent inwards because the bullet has dug a hole in the metal at the upper part of the keyhole.he tries to pull on the handle, but the lock stays put.he violently shakes the handle and pulls on the door with a growl, but it still won't move.

Noah spends some time watching his struggle. He was certain it wouldn't work, but a small part of him still hoped it would.Even that glimmer of hope is gone now.He is aware that the creature outside has every opportunity to break down the door if it so desired. The fact that his deceased partner makes a much simpler meal is the only thing holding it back. They'll be split up as soon as that monster finished eating his flesh. He declares, "I told you it wouldn't work," in defeat.hise, we're going to die."

Scott Refuses' raging fire passes away without a fight.he notices the plastic window above them as he looks around the room.Wait.I've got an idea. You can be lifted out of that window by me.

Noah focuses on the ceiling up high. His voice is low, but his eyes have a new glow. You are correct.I can get through and bring a rope down for you. After looking around, he takes a towing cable off the shelf behind him and uses it.Scott places a chair under the window after grabbing it.

“Alright.Help me up.Like a child who wants to be picked up, Noah says and stands with his arms apart.

He is held by Scott. His body's fur is supple and feels like that of a fox.he lifts him up with surprisingly little effort.Either he or he are surprisingly strong or surprisingly light. He is placed on top of Scott's shoulders.he then steps on the chair to make the two of them bigger togethis.

Two latches secure the brown plastic dome that serves as the tiny window.Noah's hands are barely able to reach them considering how big they are togethis. As he tries to open them, his tail passes through Astrid's hair but fails on the first try.He pulls out his gun once more than fumbling with metal latches that no one has opened in years.

He takes aim, and the small metal latches are destroyed by two quick shots.Despite Scott's efforts to prepare for the loud explosions, the gunshots that are fired directly over his head continue to pierce his ears like knives. But it works.Noah can simply push the plastic dome open because there is nothing holding it in place. He pulls himself up by standing on his shoulders until he is big enough to go outside.

He turns around to say, "Okay, once he gets outside."Hold on to hope.I'll locate something to attach this to.then vanishes.

Scott hears a loud crash from the store while he waits.Something else must have been knocked over by the creature.which only indicates that it is moving. As he turned to look at the door behind his, Astrid's entire body began to tremble.his entire body tells his to run, making his heart pound.

It takes what seems like forever before the cable finally falls from above. In front of his, the hook that is typically utilized to secure the cable to a vehicle swings back and forth.

Scott pulls himself up using it.he can use it as a good platform as he tries to pull himself up by grasping the cable above his with all of his strength.his hands simply slide down as his body is pulled up because the red rubber coating has very little grip.

In an effort to recall how to climb a rope, he ruminates.he just goes with what seems to be the most natural because he can't come up with anything concrete.he wraps the stiff cable around his leg and under his foot after placing his hands above his head.he pulls himself up using all of his strength by squeezing his hands together as hard as he can.

he would never have had the strength to climb a rope like a marine with his previous unathletic body.It takes all of his strength, even with his new, stronger muscles, to simultaneously pull himself up and hold onto the slick rubber that surrounds the cable. As he raises himself once more, he even forgets to take a breath.
