Maria's retirement was coming to an end. She had been brought to Hildenburg Temple wounded and unconscious, and she had stayed to find answers. She was greeted with respect but circumspection.

Alanis had even feared that he would not be wanted. It had been necessary for the Great Mother of the Temple to intervene. The other priests did not appreciate his presence and the impact that Maria's reputation would surely have on that of the temple. Wasn't he the one who preached the recognition of Allyse as the mother goddess of all Sylvari?

She had asked to be locked in her retirement cell when she woke up. A room she occupied whenever she needed to be alone, cut off from the world. It was a room of Spartan comfort equipped with a bed of straw and linen and a simple coffee table, on which Maria could take her meals, burn her candles, and pray. She spent her days there in prayer or meditation and her nights, populated by visions, enjoying a very relative rest.
