Chapter 1695 Preparing a Trump Card

Vera leaves the office and returns to the lobby, but Beto is not satisfied with the end of the conversation. Teresa is tending tenants at the counter as the radio plays “No Diggity” by Blackstreet featuring Dr. Dre. But she manages to pick up the conversation.

“Have you been with a man telling all about another guy's life? Damn it, Vera, you made the man jealous! That's why he dared to visit Wallace’s father’s wake, thinking he would find you!”

“I couldn't have gone to Seu Harold's wake.” Vera responds in a shaky voice, “I didn't get a chance to say goodbye. He was so kind and gentle to me...”

“That was before he found out you tricked the whole family with that plan.” Beto reminds her.

“Argh, let's forget 1983! Thirteen years have passed.”

“And you still seem to have learned nothing about it all,” Beto complains.

The tenant leaves and Teresa joins the conversation, “May I know what's going on?”

“No big deal, Teresa. Keep serving tenants.” Vera talks like this is an unhealthy job.
