"Bloody scoundrel! Is it not enough that I am feeding a loser like you!" Mindy Shepherd snarled at her son. "Now you have demands?"
Noah clenched his jaw to suppress his anger. He was eighteen, tall, and athletic with rather good looks. However, in his worn-out, greased clothes, he looked like a house servant. "Like I said, it is for Lia…" Mindy waved a dismissive arm as if the name was cursed. "Nonsense! Derp's birthday is coming around, and we're planning a surprise party! Do you think it is cheap to organize one in Area G? My husband is a government bureaucrat. He has a reputation to uphold!" "Tell him, Mom!" Derp chimed in from a safe corner. "Noah's never had a birthday party, so he thinks I can do without one! He wants money to spoil his diva sister!" Noah cast a spiteful glance at Derp, his rotund foster brother. The boy ate like a hippo and also looked and brayed like one. The young man suppressed the immediate urge to punch the fatso in the face. "Lia's critical care medicine is running low," Noah said calmly to his mother. "I need only fifty dollars for a refill." "Fifty dollars?! Why don't you sell my kidneys, too? You won't get a penny from me!" The young man took a step back in frustration. What kind of monster family were they? Splurging thousands of dollars on birthday parties was okay, but a fifty for life-saving essentials was too much? The answer was quite simple. Mindy wasn't really Noah's parent in the first place. The Shepherd family adopted him when he was ten. However, they didn't accept him out of the goodness of their hearts. Eight years ago, because of activism by human rights organizations, the government instituted many changes. The Mayor of Concord City announced cushy government jobs, tax cuts, and allowances for families who adopted orphans from the local orphanages. Mindy and her husband, Henry, greedily jumped at the opportunity. They took in a healthy-looking kid and his little sister into their family. They never intended to nurture and raise the kids, but to use them as house servants. Growing up in the Shepherd household, Noah and Lia were overworked like mules. Lia, now sixteen, developed a mysterious chronic illness called Mortisimia. There was no medical cure, and she needed critical medicine just to stay alive. "Fifty dollars…" Mindy repeated, eyeing the girl cowering in the corner. "I don't give a flying rat's ass about that sickly thing you call a sister! Tell her to stop making excuses about her health! If she doesn't continue doing household work, I'll kick her out onto the streets!" "You will do no such thing!" Noah retorted bitterly. "She is my sister and your legal daughter! You're supposed to provide her with healthcare! Doesn't the government provide allowances for foster kids?" Henry Shepherd had a cushy government job, thanks to the adoption scheme he chose eight years ago. Husband, wife, and son led luxurious lives. However, they wouldn't spare a coin to fulfill the needs of their foster children. While Mindy gritted her teeth at Noah's rebellion, Henry walked in with a confused look on his face. "What's going on?" Derp scoffed and filled his father's ears with lies. "Noah is harassing Mom like usual. He's trying to extort money to pamper his diva sister." Henry didn't think twice before landing a backhanded slap across Noah's face. "Just who do you think you are, bastard!" the man raged. "After all the sacrifices we have made for you, is this your payback? You ungrateful piece of shit! We won't pay for this orphan bitch's medicine anymore! She can die for all we care! Good riddance!" While Noah stood frozen with a hand over his cheek, Mindy eyed Lia with disgust. The girl was running a fever, trembling like a leaf in the corner. "If you don't remove that diseased thing from my eyesight right now, I'll kick both of you out of the house!" "Go to the Academy, you loser!" Derp chimed in with a smirk. "It's your last week, and obviously you won't get any jobs! But you'll be old enough to beg on the streets!" Noah gritted his teeth in anger but returned to his room before he could explode. The last thing he needed was to be kicked out while Lia was in a critical condition. The poor girl whimpered and could barely walk. Noah and his sister didn't really have bedrooms. They slept under a staircase in the garage on discarded, moldy mattresses. The garage reeked of putrid gasoline fumes, which only worsened Lia's condition. Mindy slid a plate of stale leftovers under the door daily. The only times Noah was allowed inside the Shepherd mansion were when he cleaned, did the dishes, and ran errands. "Don't worry, Lia. I'll find a way to pay for the medicine." The little girl had a coughing fit, and it took her minutes to calm down. Finally, she nodded and cupped her brother's face affectionately to indicate she was okay. "Don't press yourself too hard, Noah… Take care of your own health," she murmured, twinkling her moist doe eyes at him. Lia was sixteen and pretty, but was petite and skinny, mainly because of her genetic disease, Mortisimia. The doctor said she didn't have long to live, but her brother kept that information secret from Lia. If the girl realized death was inevitable, she'd lose the will to live her remaining days. Noah intended to find a cure by any means possible.Latest Chapter
69 Where is my Girlfriend?
Noah ran like the wind. There was only one thing on his mind. The love of his life, Eve. The nightmare about King Jorm taking her away haunted him all the time. What if the nightmare was a premonition for these events? What if another god class abducted her or, worse, killed her? Noah could not imagine where his mind would go if such a thing happened.Of course, he cared about other people, including his best friend, Piper, and his Trinity girls, Skylar and Alice. He also did not want Jack Chrysalis and Providence members to die. However, he'd be shattered if something were to happen to Eve.Noah passed by Bridge 2's exit but did not even pause to look into the passage. He soldiered on and, in a few minutes, reached Bridge 3. A small group of players was gathered there."Oh, thank God!" Noah said in relief. "You guys are alright! What happened?"Captain Edmund spoke up. "Crazy things happened, Lovelord. We encountered an entire army of dark elves. Along with them were a few overpowere
68 Holly the Angel Assistant
"Why did you advise me to take this bridge alone?" Noah asked Holly as soon as he was out of earshot of the others. Holly was one of the five rewards he received for reaching Level 100. She was an A.I. Angel Assistant linked to him through the Trinity Network. [ ANGEL ASSISTANT ]A ball of light blinked over Noah's head. It gradually turned into a creature and unfurled like a cocoon of light. Holly emerged smiling. She was a miniature human shape with translucent wings. She looked like a tiny fairy from high fantasy books, Tinkerbell, to be exact. "Hi, Noah! Thanks for summoning me. I shall help you in your journey to becoming a god!" Noah raised an eyebrow. "Eh, we'll get to that later," he replied. "Tell me why you asked me to come by myself on this bridge. Do you know which of the three leads to where?" Indeed, it was Holly who gave the suggestion. Since she was his Angel Assistant, only Noah could hear her when she was invisible. The Ace had blindly followed her on a whim. "I
67 Eve vs God
"Eve!" Alexa exclaimed. "Did Edmund get our call for help?""Where are the rest?" Piper asked, straining his eyes to see beyond the fog.Eve shook her head. "They have their own big fish to fry. The Commander is facing an army of dark elves, most likely led by another special class.""Oh," Skylar replied. "Then he should not have spared you. We could have handled this situation.""Oh really? The situation doesn't look handled."The girls giggled nervously. "Someone, give me a rundown."Blade spoke up. "What you see is a special class cavern demon called the Jokesmith. I think centuries of evolution have metamorphosed a mindless monster into a sentient god class. Its intelligence and raw power are off the charts, comparable to the Gandrgator King before evolution. Armors, shields, and magical attacks mean nothing to him in battle. Our last resort, the anti matter gun, barely gave him a burn. I don't know how we are going to fight this force of nature!"Eve nodded and tightened her gras

It had enormous eyes and a gnarled set of fangs that looked more like bristles than teeth. The creature stood straight like a human but had a hunch on its back which slightly tipped its torso forward. The Jokesmith’s uncanny face looked like it was grinning. It had no clothes on, but its skin was thick, striped in red and black. Blood and viscera dripped from around its humongous mouth. The entire look gave it the appearance of a nightmarish clown.“Do you like what you see?” the Jokesmith asked Piper. The cyborg’s teeth chattered, and he pissed his pants. The monster was exuding such a dark aura that everyone around him was terrified beyond imagination.Blade was more acquainted with horrifying monsters as compared to

Alexa walked briskly ahead of the others on the team. Her muscles were tense, and she spat every now and then in anger. Her fingers twitched, generating fire sparks."She looks like a ticking bomb. Shouldn't somebody go and talk to her?" Skylar suggested to the rest of the group."Let her be, kid." Blade offered, shaking his head. "I know her better than most. Alexa and I went to training together, you see? She was this popular, cheerful girl who fell in love with one of our batchmates, Dom Faust. They were like prom queen and king.""What does that have to do with her present mood?""You see… Alexa and Dom were posted to Goldibad after we graduated.""Oh? Were they teammates? Where is Dom now?"Blade sighed. "They ran a campaign against a hybrid space pirates gang called the MANEATERS. One of their double agents betrayed them. He had them walk into a trap laid by the pirates."Skylar raised her eyebrows. "What happened?""The entire squad was wip
64 Bow to the King
"They are called 'the nameless four' among our enemies," Argulus introduced his Generals. "They are undefeated in battle. You will find my generals more powerful than my entire army combined."The four warrior dark elves cackled to endorse their King's words. They walked gradually forward, producing swords that looked like bones."That's a tall claim! Hope your warriors can handle our attacks!" Titan fired back."Your fancy swords will falter in front of the spines of my ancestors," Argulus called out.[ Incoming ][ Species: Dark Elf ][ Dark Elf General: Level 50 ]"What do we do, Commander?" Titan asked Edmund nervously. Even though adrenaline made him act fearless, he was anxious about the level 50 monsters."What other choice do we have?" Edmund replied. "We have to protect Elektra until she is ready." "I am down with that, sir!"The Commander turned to Alice. "If any attacks from their side are aimed at Elektra, it's your job to deflect them.""Understood, sir!"She had already
