Chapter 1
01 Foster Home
Noah Shepherd woke to the familiar thud of something heavy crashing against the garage wall. It was obviously Derp, his oversized foster brother, waking him up horribly for fun. The vibration rattled the thin metal roof overhead, sending a sprinkle of dust onto Noah's face.
The young man didn't open his eyes right away. He just lay there on the deflated air mattress that served as his bed, breathing in the stale mix of oil, rust, and mildew that clung to everything in this corner of the garage. Another day of being eighteen years old, he thought bitterly. Another day of pretending this is normal. The rain outside was a steady roar, pounding like it wanted to get in. Noah finally cracked his eyes open and stared at the underside of the wooden staircase that loomed over him. The ceiling was his constant reminder that he lived beneath everyone else in this house. Literally. "Noah!" Mindy's voice exploded from inside the main house, venomous enough to cut through the walls. "I swear to God, if you're still sleeping while the rest of us are up working, I'll come out there and drag you in by your ear!" He sat up slowly, wincing as his head grazed the low beam. Yesterday, after a nightmare, he sat up bolt upright and hit the same spot. Ouch! Noah's fingers fumbled for the pill bottle on the overturned plastic crate he used as a nightstand. He shook it. One pill rattled inside. Just one left for Lia's seizures. The pharmacy had jacked the price again—ninety-two dollars now. Noah had scraped together nineteen bucks from odd jobs and skipping lunches. It was not nearly enough. Lia had two seizures last week, he remembered, his stomach twisting. If I don't get the refill today... He dressed in silence into yesterday's stiff jeans and a hoodie. Noah pulled the hood up, hiding the fresh bruise on his forehead, and stepped through the side door into the house. The kitchen hit him with comforting warmth and delicious smells—bacon frying, and coffee brewing—but none of it was for him. Derp was already at the table, massive and sprawled like he owned the place. The foster brother—biological son to Mindy and Ron—shoveled scrambled eggs into his mouth, leaving grease shining on his chin. "Took you long enough, garage boy," Derp said without looking up, but his smirk was audible. "Mom's pissed. She said that you're cleaning the whole bathroom today since I got weight training after school." Mindy stood at the stove, her back rigid, and a cigarette dangling from her lips. She didn't turn around. "Damn right he is. And don't even think about touching the bacon, Noah. That's for Derp—he needs protein for his sports. You can have toast if you make it yourself." Noah's mouth watered painfully at the smell of bacon. He hadn't eaten since a stale granola bar yesterday afternoon. "What about Lia's medicine?" he asked quietly, hating how small his voice sounded. "The refill—" Mindy spun then, her eyes narrowed to slits. Ash flicked from her cigarette onto the floor. "Oh, here we go again with the medicine bullshit! That girl's been nothing but a drain since the day you both showed up. We take you in out of the goodness of our hearts—feed you, put a roof over your heads—and this is the thanks we get? Whining about pills we can't afford?" "They're not for me," Noah said, heat rising in his chest. "They're for Lia. She'll—" "I don't give a damn!" Mindy snapped, stepping closer. "Ron's working double shifts to keep this family afloat, and Derp's got college scouts looking at him. You? You're eighteen now. Time to start contributing or get out. Both of you. I'm serious!" Derp chuckled. "Yeah, take your crippled sister and hit the streets. Save us all some money." Noah's hands balled into fists at his sides. Hit him. Just once. But he didn't. He never did. Derp was built like a tank. He was a football star—and Noah was... Nothing. Scrawny. Broke. Invisible. He grabbed a glass of tap water instead, drinking it slowly while staring at Lia's closed bedroom door down the hall. She was probably awake, listening to all this. Pretending to sleep so she didn't make it worse. The walk to Synergy Academy took 30 minutes in pouring rain, since there was no bus fare left after last week's groceries. Concord City's lower districts looked like a war zone that never got rebuilt—cracked sidewalks flooded with brown water, and holographic ads flickering half-dead promises of "Better Jobs Tomorrow." Hybrid gangs huddled under porches, looking to sell drugs or other illegal items. Hybrids were human beings who used animal serums to disfigure themselves, often becoming rejects of society in the process. The rare success stories became heroes or villains. Noah kept his head down. His hood was soaked through, his shoes squelching annoyingly. By the time he reached school, he was shivering. The bullying started immediately. Cory Gilbert and his crew—rich kids with augmented implants and designer uniforms- were waiting inside the entrance, out of the rain. "There he is," Cory called out, his voice carrying down the hall. "The walking welfare case. Still stinking like garage grease, Shepherd?"Expand

GOD FORMULA 69 Where is my Girlfriend?
Noah ran like the wind. There was only one thing on his mind. The love of his life, Eve. The nightmare about King Jorm taking her away haunted him all the time. What if the nightmare was a premonition for these events? What if another god class abducted her or, worse, killed her? Noah could not imagine where his mind would go if such a thing happened.Of course, he cared about other people, including his best friend, Piper, and his Trinity girls, Skylar and Alice. He also did not want Jack Chrysalis and Providence members to die. However, he'd be shattered if something were to happen to Eve.Noah passed by Bridge 2's exit but did not even pause to look into the passage. He soldiered on and, in a few minutes, reached Bridge 3. A small group of players was gathered there."Oh, thank God!" Noah said in relief. "You guys are alright! What happened?"Captain Edmund spoke up. "Crazy things happened, Lovelord. We encountered an entire army of dark elves. Along with them were a few overpowere

GOD FORMULA 68 Holly the Angel Assistant
"Why did you advise me to take this bridge alone?" Noah asked Holly as soon as he was out of earshot of the others. Holly was one of the five rewards he received for reaching Level 100. She was an A.I. Angel Assistant linked to him through the Trinity Network. [ ANGEL ASSISTANT ]A ball of light blinked over Noah's head. It gradually turned into a creature and unfurled like a cocoon of light. Holly emerged smiling. She was a miniature human shape with translucent wings. She looked like a tiny fairy from high fantasy books, Tinkerbell, to be exact. "Hi, Noah! Thanks for summoning me. I shall help you in your journey to becoming a god!" Noah raised an eyebrow. "Eh, we'll get to that later," he replied. "Tell me why you asked me to come by myself on this bridge. Do you know which of the three leads to where?" Indeed, it was Holly who gave the suggestion. Since she was his Angel Assistant, only Noah could hear her when she was invisible. The Ace had blindly followed her on a whim. "I

GOD FORMULA 67 Eve vs God
"Eve!" Alexa exclaimed. "Did Edmund get our call for help?""Where are the rest?" Piper asked, straining his eyes to see beyond the fog.Eve shook her head. "They have their own big fish to fry. The Commander is facing an army of dark elves, most likely led by another special class.""Oh," Skylar replied. "Then he should not have spared you. We could have handled this situation.""Oh really? The situation doesn't look handled."The girls giggled nervously. "Someone, give me a rundown."Blade spoke up. "What you see is a special class cavern demon called the Jokesmith. I think centuries of evolution have metamorphosed a mindless monster into a sentient god class. Its intelligence and raw power are off the charts, comparable to the Gandrgator King before evolution. Armors, shields, and magical attacks mean nothing to him in battle. Our last resort, the anti matter gun, barely gave him a burn. I don't know how we are going to fight this force of nature!"Eve nodded and tightened her gras

The creature stood straight like a human but had a hunch on its back which slightly tipped its torso forward. The Jokesmith’s uncanny face looked like it was grinning. It had no clothes on, but its skin was thick, striped in red and black. Blood and viscera dripped from around its humongous mouth. The entire look gave it the appearance of a nightmarish clown.“Do you like what you see?” the Jokesmith asked Piper. The cyborg’s teeth chattered, and he pissed his pants. The monster was exuding such a dark aura that everyone around him was terrified beyond imagination.Blade was more acquainted with horrifying monsters as compared to

GOD FORMULA 65 The Joke's on You
Alexa walked briskly ahead of the others on the team. Her muscles were tense, and she spat every now and then in anger. Her fingers twitched, generating fire sparks."She looks like a ticking bomb. Shouldn't somebody go and talk to her?" Skylar suggested to the rest of the group."Let her be, kid." Blade offered, shaking his head. "I know her better than most. Alexa and I went to training together, you see? She was this popular, cheerful girl who fell in love with one of our batchmates, Dom Faust. They were like prom queen and king.""What does that have to do with her present mood?""You see… Alexa and Dom were posted to Goldibad after we graduated.""Oh? Were they teammates? Where is Dom now?"Blade sighed. "They ran a campaign against a hybrid space pirates gang called the MANEATERS. One of their double agents betrayed them. He had them walk into a trap laid by the pirates."Skylar raised her eyebrows. "What happened?""The entire squad was wip

GOD FORMULA 64 Bow to the King
"They are called 'the nameless four' among our enemies," Argulus introduced his Generals. "They are undefeated in battle. You will find my generals more powerful than my entire army combined."The four warrior dark elves cackled to endorse their King's words. They walked gradually forward, producing swords that looked like bones."That's a tall claim! Hope your warriors can handle our attacks!" Titan fired back."Your fancy swords will falter in front of the spines of my ancestors," Argulus called out.[ Incoming ][ Species: Dark Elf ][ Dark Elf General: Level 50 ]"What do we do, Commander?" Titan asked Edmund nervously. Even though adrenaline made him act fearless, he was anxious about the level 50 monsters."What other choice do we have?" Edmund replied. "We have to protect Elektra until she is ready." "I am down with that, sir!"The Commander turned to Alice. "If any attacks from their side are aimed at Elektra, it's your job to deflect them.""Understood, sir!"She had already

A really well-written book. Good world building and great action scenes.

The book is very well-written. A must-read for all who love game-fics and sci-fi stories. Absolutely loved the battle scenes and world building. This chapters feel like episodes straight out of an anime. I'm not a huge fan of system fantasy, but this one is different. Give it a try.
