he found himself wishing he could just stay there forever. But he knew that wasn’t an option. Eventually, his dreams would stop and he had to wake up.

When morning came, he rose from his bed. He got dressed, checked his eReader one last time, making sure nothing had changed, then headed downstairs. He entered the kitchen and noticed that Mrs.Tabor was awake and sitting at the counter eating her pancakes. There was only one other person there, the young boy from yesterday. He saw his father walk up beside him and placed his hand on his shoulder.

He gave his father a quick peck on the cheek. “Good morning, daddy,” he greeted.

“Morning, kiddo,” he replied. He kissed him again, but it wasn’t as sweet as before, as if it were a goodbye kiss. The man glanced up at his wife and then quickly pulled back his arm.

Mrs. Tabor gave him a smile and wink. Then she returned to her breakfast. The man turned back to his son. “Have you eaten?” he asked him.

“Not yet, dad,” he answered.
