Chapter 1: The Boy the World Chose to Kill
The blade was already falling when Arthur Kensington realised nobody was coming to save him. The executioner's sword descended from above, wrapped in streams of black spiritual energy that twisted through the air like living serpents. The enormous weapon carried enough power to split mountains, yet every eye in the city remained fixed upon it with eager anticipation.
Thousands had gathered to witness his death.Thousands.The realisation should have frightened him. Instead, it left him feeling strangely hollow.
Arthur stood at the centre of the execution platform, bound by chains forged from Spirit-Iron. His wrists bled where the restraints dug into his flesh. Dried blood stained his clothes. Bruises covered his face and body, serving as reminders of weeks spent in prison awaiting this moment. Yet none of those injuries hurt as much as what stood before him.
Three wooden stakes had been planted at the edge of the square. Upon them rested the severed heads of his family. His father. His mother. His little sister. The crowd cheered whenever they looked at them. Arthur could still remember the smell of smoke from that night.
The flames are consuming his home. The screams. The blood. The desperate attempts of his father to shield the family from soldiers who had already decided their fate. He remembered everything. Every detail.Every second. Some wounds never healed. Some memories never faded. A loud voice echoed throughout the square."Arthur Kensington."
The High Judge stepped forward. His silver robes gleamed beneath the dark clouds gathering overhead."You stand convicted of treason against the Crown, murder of noble citizens, possession of forbidden cultivation arts, and conspiracy against the kingdom."
The accusations rolled through the crowd. Many nodded. Others spat in Arthur's direction. Not because they knew the charges were true. But because it was easier to believe the powerful than question them. Arthur slowly lifted his head. His gaze travelled across the sea of faces surrounding him. Nobody looked away. Not one person.
Not even those who knew he was innocent.Especially not those who knew he was innocent. Fear had always been stronger than truth. The judge narrowed his eyes."Do you have any final words before the sentence is carried out?"
Arthur remained silent. Not because he lacked words.Because there were too many. What could he possibly say? That he had never committed those crimes? Nobody would care. That his family had been murdered for political convenience? Nobody would care. That the kingdom had fabricated every piece of evidence? Nobody would care.
The world belonged to the strong. The weak deserved nothing. Arthur had spent seventeen years learning that lesson. His entire life had been proof of it. Born without a powerful bloodline.Born without exceptional talent.Born without noble status. Every door had remained closed. Every opportunity had been denied. Every failure had been mocked.
The world worshipped strength. And Arthur possessed none. A burst of laughter drew his attention upward. Arthur's eyes hardened. Standing upon the royal balcony was a young man dressed in crimson robes embroidered with golden flames.
Cedric Valmont. The heir of one of the kingdom's most powerful noble families. The genius everyone admired. The monster Arthur hated. Cedric leaned casually against the railing. His handsome face carried a smile that made Arthur's stomach twist. It was the smile of someone who had never faced consequences. The smile of someone who believed the world existed solely for his amusement."Nothing to say?" Cedric called down.
His voice carried effortlessly through the square."That's disappointing. I expected at least a few tears."Laughter erupted among the nobles. Arthur stared at him. Memories flashed through his mind. Cedric humiliates him at the academy.
Cedric ordered servants to beat him. Cedric framed him for crimes he never committed. Cedric watched as Arthur's family was dragged away. The hatred simmering inside Arthur's chest intensified. Not the hot hatred of rage.Something colder.Something far more dangerous.
The kind that never faded. Cedric smiled wider."Look at him. He still thinks he's the victim."The crowd laughed again. Arthur finally spoke. His voice was calm. Too calm."Tell me something."The laughter gradually faded. Cedric raised an eyebrow."What?"
Arthur looked directly into his eyes."For all your power... have you ever spent a single day afraid?"The question caught everyone off guard. Cedric frowned. Arthur continued."Have you ever gone to sleep wondering whether your family would still be alive in the morning?"The square grew quieter."Have you ever watched people starve because someone stronger decided they deserved it?"
The smile on Cedric's face slowly disappeared. Arthur took a step forward despite the chains. His voice remained steady.
"Have you ever been powerless?"Something uncomfortable settled over the crowd. Even the nobles shifted uneasily. Because they already knew the answer. People like Cedric had never experienced weakness. They had never needed to. The world bent itself around their desires. Cedric's expression darkened."You dare lecture me?"
Arthur laughed. A quiet laugh. One filled with exhaustion rather than amusement."No."His gaze swept across the crowd. Across the nobles.Across the soldiers.Across the entire kingdom that had condemned him."I'm just wondering what will happen when people like you finally learn how fragile power really is."For the first time, uncertainty flickered across Cedric's face.
Only for an instant. Then it vanished."Execute him."The order echoed across the square. The executioner stepped forward immediately. A giant of a man.Emotionless.Efficient.His sword rose into the air. Black energy spiralled around the blade.
Arthur stared upward. The clouds above seemed darker now. The wind is colder. Somewhere in the distance, thunder rumbled. Strangely enough, he wasn't afraid. Fear required hope. Hope had died weeks ago. Instead, he thought of Emily. His little sister. The brightest part of his life.
She had always believed in him. Even when nobody else did.Especially when nobody else did. A memory surfaced. A young girl smiling while holding a broken wooden sword."One day you'll surprise everyone, big brother."Arthur's chest tightened. He closed his eyes."I'm sorry."
The words escaped as a whisper. Not for himself. For her. The blade fell. Reality shattered. Pain exploded through Arthur's body. Every nerve ignited simultaneously. The sensation transcended physical suffering. It felt as though his very existence was being torn apart. The Soul Severance Sword didn't merely kill. It erased.Destroyed.Consumed.
Arthur screamed. Then darkness swallowed him....Death was supposed to be silent. Instead, Arthur heard voices. Thousands of them.Millions.Whispers emerged from every direction.Ancient.Unfamiliar.Terrifying.Their words overlapped endlessly.
A language older than kingdoms.Older than history.Older than the stars themselves. Arthur opened his eyes. His breath caught instantly. A crimson moon dominated the sky. The moon was fractured. Gigantic cracks stretched across its surface. Darkness leaked from those fractures like blood from an open wound. Beneath the moon stood seven colossal thrones. Each throne floated in an endless void. Chains wrapped around them.
Ancient runes glowed across their surfaces. The sight filled Arthur with instinctive dread. Yet something felt wrong.
One throne stood apart from the others. Its chains had already broken. Its runes flickered weakly. And somehow...It felt familiar. Arthur took a step toward it. The moment he moved, agony erupted inside his chest. He collapsed. A scream tore from his throat.
His heart pounded violently. Every drop of blood within his body seemed to boil. Then a voice echoed across the void. It sounded neither human nor divine. It sounded inevitable."Eclipse Ascension System detected."Arthur froze. The voice continued."Host identified."Compatibility confirmed."Emergency awakening initiated."
Golden symbols exploded throughout the darkness. Countless runes appeared around him. Some resembled stars. Others resembled chains. Several looked disturbingly similar to eyes. A translucent screen materialised before him. Eclipse Ascension System Activated, Primary Authority: Devour, Secondary Authority: Evolve. Tertiary Authority: Ascend.
Arthur stared at the glowing words. His pulse accelerated."What are you?"The system did not answer. Instead, information flooded into his mind.Visions.Fragments.Memories that didn't belong to him. Ancient gods tearing apart worlds. Immortal armies battling across galaxies. Seven realms are burning. Entire civilizations collapsing beneath a sky consumed by darkness.
Then he saw a figure. A lone figure standing above countless stars. The being's appearance remained hidden. Yet Arthur somehow knew one terrifying truth. The figure was him. Not the Arthur who had died.Something far older.Far more powerful.A creature capable of shaking creation itself. The vision vanished. Arthur staggered backwards. Cold sweat covered his body."What was that?"
Before he could process the experience, another message appeared.[Critical Warning.][Seal Integrity: 3%.][Host Awakening Detected.][Ancient Prison Failing.]
Arthur frowned. Prison? What prison? Then the void trembled. A roar echoed across the darkness. Arthur turned. Something was rising from beneath the abyss. His breath stopped. The creature emerging below was larger than mountains. Its body consisted of black chains. Its eyes burned like dying suns. Ancient scars covered its massive form.
Power radiated from it in waves capable of crushing kingdoms. The monster stared directly at Arthur. For several seconds, neither moved. Then Arthur noticed something impossible. The creature wasn't looking at him with hostility. It was looking at him with fear. Genuine fear. The realisation sent ice through his veins. How could something that powerful fear him?
The colossal being slowly lowered its head. Its voice shook reality itself."The Heart has awakened."Arthur's blood froze. The monster's burning eyes never left him."The Calamity has returned."The void cracked. The crimson moon shattered further.
The seven thrones trembled violently. Then the creature uttered words that made Arthur's soul go cold."This time..." Its voice became almost a whisper. "...the Seven Realms will not survive."
Suddenly, Arthur felt something pull him backwards. The darkness fractured. The entire world collapsed around him. His consciousness was dragged away. Far away. Toward a place he recognised. A coffin.A burial chamber.A corpse. His corpse. Arthur's eyes snapped open. Brilliant silver light exploded from within the coffin.
Ancient runes carved into the burial chamber walls shattered instantly. Outside, terrified guards stumbled backwards. One dropped his weapon. Another screamed. Deep beneath the capital, immortal cultivators who had slumbered for centuries awakened simultaneously.
Their eyes widened in horror. Because they recognised that aura.An aura that should not exist. An aura erased from history itself. And as Arthur Kensington slowly sat upright inside his coffin, a final system notification appeared before his eyes.[First Bloodline Available For Consumption.][Target Identified.][Cedric Valmont.][Distance: 3.2 Miles.]
Arthur stared at the glowing words. Then he smiled. For the first time since his family's death, the smile reached his eyes. And somewhere within the darkness beyond reality, something smiled back.
