FROM DEATH TO DOMINATION

“ What are you going to do about him?” a feminine voice said, her eyes filled with worry, as she took occasional glances at the man lying on the bed.

“ I’m going to kill him, of course. You belong to me. I won’t let this wimp take you and Goshen Medical Centre from me!”

A masculine voice followed, filled with disdain and a bitter taste of hatred.

“ What if the forensic pathologist finds out about the cause of his death?”

The female in the room was clouded in sweat, and her face was pale with fear.

“I don’t want to go to jail for the death of your step brother. He is my husband.”

“ Can you shut up for once?” Caleb yelled at the female beside him. “I need you to trust me, Sophia. I won’t leave a trace. The forensic pathologists won’t find the cause of his death, no matter how hard they try.”

Caleb smirked callously as he dragged his gaze from Sophia to Slade, the man lying unconsciously on the bed.

“ But first, before I kill him, I have to get the code for the research he is working on. If he had his way, he would take Goshen Medical Centre and the foundation from me. I won’t let him!”

Caleb’s cold glare fell on unconscious Slade, who had not even the slightest idea of what was happening.

With a devilish smirk on his lips, Caleb began to take slow steps towards the unconscious Slade with an injection filled with cyanide.

He had a determined look on his face, as he didn’t stop for a second until he got to where Slade was laid.

He took out the injection filled with cyanide and was about to inject it into Slade’s vein when his eyes slowly opened.

Caleb was taken aback, as he hesitated once he saw that Slade was awake.

“ What...what are you trying to do, Brother Caleb?” Slade asked innocently, as he tried to wrap his head around what was happening.

The last time he remembered, he was attending to a patient in the ICU, then he was covered with a white handkerchief containing a sleeping substance.

And now that he was awake, he found himself on a bed in an empty room, with his wife, Sophia, and his stepbrother, Caleb.

“ What is the code to your research?” Caleb ignored Slade’s question.

“ Why are you asking?” Slade frowned, while Caleb hissed in annoyance.

“ Will you answer the damn question!”

Caleb was running out of patience and couldn’t wait to get the code from Slade before injecting him with cyanide.

“ I can’t tell you about it until I’m done with my research,” Slade replied and tried to stand up from the bed, but Caleb pushed him back.

He fell back heavily onto the bed and groaned as a terrible headache hit his head, causing him to shut his eyes in pain.

“ Why are you doing this, Brother? I have patients to attend to.” Slade said.

“ Who told you that you would be leaving this room alive?” Caleb smirked, raising the injection at his face, yet Slade couldn’t understand what was happening.

“ What do you mean?” He asked, dragging his gaze from Caleb to Sophia, who immediately looked away.

“ Sophia, what does Brother Caleb mean?”

“ It means you will be dying, motherfucker!” Caleb hissed in annoyance. “ I will be sending you to meet your dead mother in hell or wherever she is.”

Slade fell silent, as everything that was happening began to register in his head.

“ You don’t mean it, do you?” Slade forced a smile as he swallowed a fist-sized lump that lodged at his throat.

“Does it look like we are filming a drama here?” Caleb asked, tilting his head with a cruel smile on his lips.

“ Don’t do this, brother!” Slade said. “You will regret it for the rest of your life!”

“ Well, I’m sorry to say, but today is the day you will die, and that would be after I get the code for your research from you.”

Slade had always been the best medical surgeon and medical researcher in Capital M City, and because of that, his two stepbrothers and even his stepmother became envious of him and would stop at nothing to embarrass him.

Slade’s research was on an unknown disease that was discovered in the Mayor’s system a few weeks ago.

The Mayor promised to give his only daughter to Slade and also donate millions of dollars to Goshen Medical Centre, where Slade worked, if he could find the cure for his unknown disease.

Caleb wanted to take the glory for the research after he killed Slade - that was his plan.

Tears rolled down Slade's eyes as he dragged his gaze once again towards Sophia, before speaking up.

"Are you in this too?" he asked, his voice trailing off. " I loved you with all my heart, Sophia. I had plans to give the world to you, but is this how you betray me?"

" I'm sorry, Slade, but I never loved you," Sophia stated, breaking Slade's heart into millions of pieces. “ I have always loved Caleb. I just had to marry you out of pity.”

Even in a thousand years to come, he wouldn't be able to mend his broken heart.

" You should have told me before; you should have stopped me from falling in love and also getting married to you!" Slade cried even harder, while Caleb glared coldly at him.

" Can you give me the damn code and stop crying like a child?" Caleb's patience had finally run out.

" I won't give you that code, even if you kill me!" Slade yelled, while Caleb's eyes turned bloodshot.

" Bastard!" He grabbed Slade by the throat, choking him so hard that it was hard to breathe.

" Tell me the code now!" Caleb added more force to his hold on Slade's neck.

And after a few minutes, Slade didn't say a word, making Caleb get even angrier.

Out of anger, he took the injection from the top of the drawer beside the bed and injected it into Slade's neck, and he went limp immediately.

He became so weak that he couldn't even move his eyelids.

" I must get that research code with or without your help!" Caleb stood up and smirked. "Enjoy your time in hell."

With that said, he walked towards Sophia, pushed her to the wall, and gave her a rough kiss.

Slade watched them with tears leaving the corners of his eyes.

He couldn't believe that another man, his step-brother, and his wife could be kissing right in front of him.

He was vulnerable, weak, and in a few minutes, he would be dead.

He felt his insides twist, and his whole body began to swell due to the effect of the cyanide.

Just when the life in him was about to slip out, the golden necklace on his neck suddenly stood up on its own and shone brightly, almost blinding Slade's eyes.

It was a necklace given to him by his late mother.

With the brightness of the necklace, the life that was already slipping out of him returned, and his swollen body became normal in a matter of seconds!

He was given a second chance!

A second chance to take what rightfully belonged to him and to make everyone involved in his first death pay dearly!
