Chapter 1
chapter 1
“You have to bring us $1,200,000 within three days, or else we can't assure your daughter's safety. Simply put—your daughter will die.” Doctor Tane told Victoria this right in front of her daughter, who lay on the hospital bed. He was brutally direct. “Am I going to die?” Amelia, Victoria’s little girl, whimpered. “No…” Victoria began, but Doctor Tane interrupted her. “Yes, Amelia, you are going to die—if your mom doesn’t pay that money to save your life,” he said coldly. Victoria glared at him angrily. “Why are you doing this? She’s just a little girl, and—” “And what?!” he snapped. “In fact, your daughter could die today if you don’t pay the hospital fees first. You’re already a week behind on payments. If today ends without that money, we will throw you out of here. So, you’d better find that money today—before even thinking about the heart surgery. Otherwise, she will die.” Doctor Tane grinned before walking out of the room. Amelia clutched Victoria’s hand tightly, her small fingers trembling. “Mom… Am I really going to die?” she asked, her voice fragile and scared. Tears welled in her big, innocent eyes. “Please, Mom, I don’t want to die. I don’t want to go anywhere without you. Where will I go if I die?”. Victoria broke down, her tears falling freely as she shook her head. “No, baby. You’re not going to die. I won’t let that happen.” Amelia sniffled, then hesitated before whispering, “Mom… What about our father?” Victoria stiffened. “I’ve never seen him,” Amelia continued, her voice tinged with sadness. “I want to see him before I die…” She looked away, her fingers curling into the blanket as if she had already accepted her fate. “I don’t want to die fatherless.” Victoria wiped her tears and sniffed. “I promise you,” she said firmly, gripping Amelia’s hand tighter. “You will meet your father. And you are not going to die.” With that, she kissed Amelia’s forehead, stood up, and hurried out of the hospital. Her hands shook as she pulled out her phone. For a long moment, she hesitated, then typed in a number she hadn’t dialed in years—Stiles. She didn’t even know if it would still ring. But to her shock, it did. And after two rings, the line connected. A deep, unfamiliar voice came through. “Stiles. Who is this?” Victoria inhaled sharply. “This is Victoria,” she said quickly. “We have a daughter together. She needs heart surgery—she’s going to die otherwise. And she… she wants to meet you. Please, come.” Before he could respond, she hung up, her heart pounding in her chest. --- Meanwhile, in the Northern Desert of Mountville A lone man stood amidst a field of corpses, his body drenched in blood. Victoria started to get up. She threw the covers off and swung her legs over the edge of the bed. You can’t leave—” “I’m going to get the drug,” Victoria said firmly, slipping one arm into her dress. “I don’t have time to lie here and wait.” “But you’re still injured! Her steps were slow, limping, and painful—but they were hers. She reached the hospital entrance, only to be stopped by a soldier stationed at the door. “Ma’am, I’m sorry, but you’re not permitted to leave yet—” Victoria raised a hand. “Don’t worry about me.
