CHAPTER ONE.

Finn Rowe jolted awake, soaked and freezing. Cold water burned his skin, and his heart was pounding. He blinked, trying to figure out where he was. Elara Voss stood right in front of him, glaring, her hand still raised.

How could you? she snapped, her voice full of hate. How could you cheat on me? Finn opened his mouth, but nothing came out. His eyes moved left and stopped. A girl was curled up on the floor with a blanket, crying, totally ashamed. Finn's chest hurt.

Before he could think, he saw the rest of the Voss family. They all looked mad and disgusted. The hotel room, supposed to be a celebration for his and Elara's anniversary, was now a scene of accusations. Finn's knees gave way, and he fell. Elara, please, he begged, his voice cracking. I didn't do anything.

Elara narrowed her eyes and stepped closer. Is she lying? You're terrible. You won't even own up to what you did to her. Finn's mind went back.

Yesterday, he'd arrived at the hotel, excited for a quiet night with Elara. She'd told him to wait. Then, a waiter brought champagne, saying it was from her. Happy, Finn drank it and started feeling warm. Then, he got dizzy, and the room started to spin. He barely noticed a woman come in before he passed out. Now, he could only imagine what had happened.

Back in the room, Finn begged, I swear, Elara, I'm innocent. I'd never hurt you.

But no one was listening. Regina Voss stepped forward, sneering. You're a useless son-in-law, she said, her voice sharp. You don't even have a real job. You're just a delivery guy, living off our money. And now you do this? Finn's stomach dropped.

Leonard Voss shook his head, looking disappointed. I can't believe this. I thought you were better than this. You've shamed this family.

Maribel Voss walked up and slapped Finn hard across the face. Then, her husband, Darius Blackmoor, started hitting him, again and again. Finn tried to protect himself, but he couldn't. They spat on him, saying awful things.

Finn curled up on the bed, tears in his eyes, begging them to understand. I'm telling the truth. Please, just listen. I couldn't do this. He looked at the girl. She wasn't crying anymore. She was smirking. Finn couldn't tell if she was making fun of him or if she was part of a setup.

The room felt smaller. He was so humiliated. Every insult, every hit, every disgusted look crushed him. He wanted to run, but he couldn't move. The room wasn't a place of love anymore. It was a cage where everyone could see his shame.

Elara didn't look sorry. You can't even speak for yourself. Look at her, she said, pointing to the girl, look at what you did. You're terrible, and you don't deserve anything. Finn's mind raced. He wanted to explain about the champagne, the dizziness, the blackout. But he couldn't speak, and even if he could, would they believe him? The smirk on the girl's face said no.

Regina's voice cut through the room. You think we'd believe a delivery guy over our own eyes? You're a fool, Rowe. You ruin everything. You've shamed this family. Finn shook his head. I'm not lying. I'm innocent.

Leonard stepped closer, his disappointment turning to anger. We gave you a chance, but you blew it. You don't deserve this family. You've embarrassed us all. Finn could barely breathe.

Maribel slapped him again, harder this time. Darius joined in, hitting him over and over. They spat on him, making him feel even worse.

Finn sank down, crying. Please, I'm telling the truth. I couldn't do this. I'd never hurt you, Elara. He looked at her, hoping she'd believe him, but she just looked angry.

The girl stood up, brushing herself off. Her smirk got wider as she watched him fall apart. Finn didn't understand why she was there or if she'd been part of the plan to hurt him.

Elara's voice was cold. You don't deserve my trust, my love, or anything. You're worthless, and now everyone knows it. Finn fell to his knees, crying. I'm innocent. Please, I swear, I'm innocent.

Regina sneered. You think words can fix this? You're nothing, Rowe. A delivery guy, a leech, a failure. And now you've brought shame into this room.

Maribel leaned in, her eyes full of hate. You're disgusting. How dare you think you were good enough for this family? She slapped him again, and Darius kept hitting him. Finn curled up, trying to protect himself, but it was no use.

Finally, they stopped. The room was silent except for Finn's breathing. He looked up, tears on his face, and saw the family leave. Spitting on him, hitting him, and yelling at him was their way of judging him. Finn stayed on the bed, shocked and broken, not understanding what had just happened.

The girl stayed, smirking. Finn's mind raced, trying to remember yesterday, the champagne, the dizziness, the blackout, and now this. He had to survive, to prove he was innocent, but right now, alone in the hotel room, he felt like he was going to break.

Finn Rowe stayed on his knees, head down, his heart pounding. He'd never felt so weak, so exposed, so humiliated. The family was gone, the girl had smiled, and he was trapped. He had to find a way to survive, to prove he was innocent, and to get back his dignity.
