Chapter 1
Chapter One – The One They Thought Was Useless
The call came at exactly 7:13 a.m. Charlie glanced at the caller ID and sighed. Nancy. He picked up.
“Get to Central Hospital. Mom’s condition has worsened. They need blood. Again.” Her voice was flat—no gratitude, no concern. Just an order.
“Alright,” he replied quietly, already grabbing his coat. His face was still pale from the last donation, but that didn’t seem to matter to Nancy—or anyone else in her family.
He stepped out of the small, crumbling apartment. The morning breeze hit him like cold steel, but it reminded him he was still alive. Not that many people cared whether he was or not.
Just as he turned toward the main road, a woman stepped directly into his path.
“Charlie!,” she said. Her voice was calm but filled with weight. Urgent, steady.
He blinked, confused. “Do I know you?”
“Not yet. But you will,” she said. “Listen carefully—you’re not who you think you are. You were once a War God. A protector of this nation. But something happened—an ambush. You lost your powers… and your memory.”
He stared at her like she’d grown wings. “What?”
“I don’t expect you to believe me,” she said, pulling something from her coat. “But everything you know about yourself is a lie. You were once the most feared and respected man alive. And soon… you’ll remember.”
Charlie shook his head. “Look, lady—I don’t have time for this. I have somewhere I need to be.” He tried to move past her, but she blocked him again.
“Take this,” she insisted, forcing a business card into his hand. “If you don’t believe me now, that’s fine. But tomorrow… everything changes.”
Before he could respond, she turned and vanished into the early crowd like smoke. Charlie looked down at the card in his hand, but didn’t read it. He shoved it into his pocket and kept walking.
War God? What kind of nonsense was that?
The hospital stank of antiseptic and strained nerves. Cold fluorescent lights buzzed overhead like insects. Charlie walked in, and instantly, Nancy was there—arms folded, expression carved from ice.
“You took your sweet time,” she snapped.
“I came as fast as I could,” he said.
“You always have an excuse, don’t you?” she muttered, not even bothering to look him in the eye. “The nurse is ready. Don’t waste time.”
He followed her down the corridor, dragging his feet slightly. The last donation had taken a toll on him. But complaints weren’t allowed in this marriage.
Soon, he was lying on a stiff bed, arm stretched out. The nurse inserted the needle with practiced coldness.
As the blood began to drain, Charlie stared at the ceiling. His vision blurred at the edges. 600ml. By the end of it, he was already dizzy.
Nancy didn’t even glance at him. Instead, her expression lit up when a sharply dressed man entered the hallway. Carl Kidman. Polished shoes. Tailored suit. Hair like he just walked out of a magazine. He radiated wealth.
“Carl! You came!” Nancy’s tone did a full 180. Sweet. Warm. “Thank you so much. I really don’t know what we’d do without you.”
Carl smirked. “I called in a few favors. Your mom’s condition… It's complicated. But we might have a solution.”
Then he turned and gave Charlie a glance. One look was enough to say everything. Contempt. Disgust. Superiority.
Nancy leaned closer to Carl and said, almost whispering, “Looks like this useless thing is no longer needed.” Charlie bit down on the inside of his cheek. Hard. But he stayed silent.
A doctor came out a moment later, holding a tablet. “We’ve reviewed her scans. It’s rare—but not hopeless. There’s only one person with the skill to operate: the Miracle Doctor.”
Nancy gasped. “Is that true?”
The doctor nodded. “But he’s very difficult to reach. She’s selective… and expensive.”
Carl puffed out his chest. “Don’t worry. I’ll bring her here. My family still has influence.”
Then Carl flicked his gaze toward the doctor—and the doctor gave a slight nod. Too fast for Nancy to notice, but Charlie caught it.
“We may need more blood,” the doctor said, far too casually. “As backup.” Nancy didn’t hesitate.
“Draw more.” Charlie’s body tensed.
“No… I already gave too much. Anymore and it’ll—”
“Oh please,” Nancy sneered. “You’re still breathing. That’s enough.”
The nurse hesitated, but Nancy barked, “I said draw more! Leave him with one last breath if you must!”
Charlie tried to resist, but his arm was like lead. His vision was already tilting, and now… he was falling deeper into it. They drained more blood. He could feel his heart slowing. His breath was shallow, his limbs numb. Everything was fading.
Nancy didn’t care. She turned and walked away with Carl, laughing at something he said. The nurse pulled out the needle and left without a word. Charlie lay there, alone. Half-dead. He couldn’t lift his head. His hand twitched, reaching for his phone. But instead, something slipped out of his pocket.
The card. The one the woman had given him. He blinked slowly, dragging it toward him with the last flicker of strength he had left. He turned it over—and froze.
“Secretary of Miracle Doctor: Linda Sarman.”
His heart thudded once. Hard. Linda… the woman who stopped him earlier. The one Nancy and Carl were desperately trying to find so she could link them. She’d already found him. That couldn’t be a coincidence. That couldn’t be a lie. Could it?
He stared at the name, his fingers trembling. Was this why she told him he’d remember soon? Was she not only the secretary of the miracle doctor—but also the key to unlocking his forgotten past?
The sound of nurses chatting in the hall blurred into noise. Charlie’s breath was shallow, but in his mind, everything had gone sharp. If this woman was the only one who could save Nancy’s mother, then what did that make him? A pawn? A stepping stone? Or the one person who held all the power—and simply hadn’t realized it yet?
His eyes burned with exhaustion, but there was a flicker inside him now. A spark. Something he hadn’t felt in years. It was faint, almost impossible to define. But it was there. The woman had called him a War God. She said he’d been the nation’s protector. That he had power, wealth, and influence beyond imagination. And now she’d come back—just as Carl and Nancy needed her the most.
Charlie gritted his teeth weakly. Let them think he was useless. Let them walk over him one more time.
But tomorrow… Tomorrow, everything changes.
Chapter 2
Charlie stared at the business card with trembling hands. "Miracle Doctor… Linda Sarman?" he muttered under his breath. That woman… she couldn’t have known about Nancy’s mother by coincidence. Could she really be who she claimed?
He pulled out his phone with what little energy he had left and dialed the number on the card.
It rang once.
Twice.
Then a calm, assertive voice answered, “Charlie?”
It shocked him that she already knew his name. “I… I need help,” he whispered hoarsely.
“I know. I’m already on my way,” Linda replied, her voice firm. “Don’t let anyone draw another drop of your blood.”
The line went dead before Charlie could even respond.
Charlie tucked the phone under the pillow just as footsteps echoed outside the hallway. Carl’s voice drifted in first—low, urgent, and laced with impatience.
“I don’t care if the real miracle doctor’s impossible to find,” Carl snapped. “Just get me someone. Anyone. Put a lab coat on a half-decent actor and call him the best doctor in the country. Nancy doesn’t know any better.”
The man on the other end of the line said something indistinct, but Charlie heard the frustration in Carl’s reply. “We’re wasting time! My father’s been pressing me to solidify an alliance. If I can marry Nancy now—before the truth comes out—I’ll have access to her family’s entire medical network. After that, the old woman can die for all I care.”
Charlie’s eyes widened. So, all of this—the care, the support—was a lie? Carl was just using Nancy… just like Nancy used him?
The betrayal layered upon betrayal made Charlie’s stomach turn.
“I’ll handle it myself,” Carl barked. “Just make sure that fake doctor is convincing.”
Charlie involuntarily let out a small gasp.
Carl turned sharply toward the curtain separating the beds. “Who’s there?”
Charlie didn’t answer. He lay completely still, hoping Carl would think he imagined it. But his pale face and tensed frame gave him away.
Carl yanked the curtain aside, and his eyes narrowed. “So, you’re still alive?”
Charlie stared back, silent.
Carl walked closer and leaned in, lowering his voice to a hiss. “Eavesdropping is dangerous, especially for someone as useless as you. What you heard—forget it.”
Charlie didn’t flinch. In fact, despite his weakness, a strange calm washed over him. A small part of him—one long buried—was beginning to stir.
Carl smirked. “I’d warn you to keep your mouth shut, but let’s be honest—you won’t be around long enough to talk.”
Just then, the door opened. Nancy entered, holding a tray of food and sipping tea like nothing was wrong.
“Oh, look who’s still pretending to be on death’s door,” she sneered when she saw Charlie lying weakly on the bed. “Are you hoping to guilt me into keeping you around? Pathetic.”
Charlie said nothing.
Carl quickly regained his composure and smiled at Nancy. “He was just complaining that 600ml was too much. I told him he was exaggerating. After all, you said your mom’s life was at stake. What’s a little sacrifice, right?”
Nancy chuckled and placed the tray down. “Exactly. Besides, he has nothing else to offer.”
Charlie’s fingers tightened into a fist beneath the blanket.
“Anyway,” Carl said, turning toward Nancy with a practiced smile, “I spoke to one of my contacts in the medical council. They might’ve found a lead on the miracle doctor.”
Nancy’s eyes lit up. “Really? That’s amazing!”
“Well,” Carl said slowly, “he hasn’t agreed yet. But don’t worry—I’ll pull some strings.”
Nancy’s face softened. She reached out and touched Carl’s arm. “You’ve already done so much for us…”
Carl glanced sideways at Charlie and smirked. “It’s the least I can do.”
Before Nancy could respond, a nurse peeked through the door. “Excuse me. Miss Nancy? There’s a woman asking for Mr. Charlie. She says her name is… Linda Sarman.”
Nancy frowned. “Who?”
Charlie’s eyes snapped open. He sat up, wincing at the sudden movement.
Carl’s expression darkened. “Impossible. That name—”
The nurse looked confused. “She says she’s a doctor. And she insisted on speaking to him privately.”
“I’ll see her,” Charlie said, his voice raspy but steady.
Carl stepped forward. “There’s no need. If this is about your blood tests or something, I’ll handle it.”
But Charlie didn’t even look at him. “No. I’ll see her myself.”
Nancy rolled her eyes. “So dramatic…”
Moments later, the door opened, and Linda Sarman stepped in.
She wore a simple black coat, but there was something about her presence—something magnetic. Her posture was poised, her eyes sharp and intelligent.
Carl visibly tensed.
Nancy frowned, clearly unimpressed. “You’re the so-called doctor?”
Linda glanced briefly at Nancy, then Carl, before her gaze settled on Charlie. “I’m here for him. Not you.”
She walked over to Charlie and pulled a small scanner from her pocket, waving it over his wrist. A faint beep sounded.
Charlie blinked. “What’s that?”
“A reminder,” she said softly. “That you’re more than what they made you believe.”
Nancy snorted. “Please. He’s a street rat we picked up. He should be thanking us.”
Linda turned slowly. “Is that so?”
Carl stepped forward, trying to take control of the situation. “Look, I don’t know what your angle is, but this is a private matter—”
“No,” Linda cut in, “this is a national matter.”
She turned to Charlie and handed him a sealed envelope.
“Inside is your first clue. Proof of who you were—and who you still are. You’re not just some pawn in their twisted game, Charlie. You’re someone they all feared once.”
Charlie hesitated, then took the envelope.
Linda gave him a faint smile. “I’ll give you time. But be warned—more danger is coming. And when it does, you’ll need to decide whether to run… or rise.”
She turned and walked out, leaving stunned silence behind her.
Carl scowled. “What kind of circus stunt was that?”
Nancy looked confused, but also slightly uneasy.
Charlie stared down at the envelope, the seal unbroken.
Somewhere deep inside, something was awakening. And though his body was still weak, his mind was clearer than it had been in years.
For the first time in a long time… he didn’t feel like a victim.
He felt like a ticking storm. And it was only just beginning.
Chapter 3
Charlie watched the door slowly close behind Linda as Carl followed, her last words echoing in his mind like a long-forgotten melody—You’re someone they all feared once.
He stared at the sealed envelope in his hand, his heart thudding—not with fear, but with something else. A strange calmness. The feeling that, for once, he held the pieces of the game.
Nancy crossed her arms and let out a scoff. “Well, that was a fun little performance. You sure know how to attract clowns, Charlie. Must be a new talent.”
Charlie turned his gaze to her, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “You really think Carl found the miracle doctor?”
Nancy’s smile faltered for the briefest second. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Charlie leaned back, ignoring the weakness in his limbs. “I’m saying—what if I told you Carl never found the real doctor? What if he never even got close?”
Nancy laughed coldly. “Please. Carl isn’t like you. He actually gets things done.”
He tilted his head slightly. “Right. Gets things done… by faking a doctor to trick you into marriage?”
Her expression froze.
He saw it then—the faintest flicker of doubt in her eyes.
“What are you talking about?” she snapped, masking it quickly.
Charlie’s smile deepened, mocking. “You think you’re the one in control, don’t you? But Carl doesn’t want your mother cured. He wants your name—your resources. The rest? He’s willing to fake.”
Nancy took a step forward, fuming. “You’re just bitter because I chose someone better than you.”
“Better?” Charlie asked quietly. “If you say so.”
Nancy snatched her bag and dug through it furiously. “You want out, fine. You’ve been dragging your useless self through my life long enough.” She pulled out a folded document and slapped it on the side table beside his bed. “Here. Divorce agreement. I dare you to sign it.”
Charlie glanced at the papers, then back at her.
She tilted her head, smirking. “Oh? Suddenly you’re quiet? What happened to that fake confidence?”
Without a word, Charlie reached for the pen resting nearby, picked it up, and signed his name at the bottom in smooth, bold strokes.
Nancy blinked.
He set the pen down gently. “There. Signed. You’re free.”
For a long moment, Nancy said nothing. Her lips parted slightly, but no sound came out.
Then she laughed again, though it sounded more forced than before. “You really think you’re doing something here? That little act means nothing. Once the miracle doctor gets here, you’ll be irrelevant.”
Charlie’s eyes remained steady. “You’re right. Once the real doctor gets here, everything will change.”
She rolled her eyes and gathered the signed document. “Whatever. You’ll be out of this hospital bed soon enough. And when you are, don’t expect anyone to care what happens to you.”
Charlie didn’t respond. There was no need. Nancy was still playing a game that was ending right before her eyes.
She turned to leave, muttering something under her breath, when the door creaked open again.
Linda stepped inside.
The timing was surgical.
She walked with quiet elegance, holding a small vial in one hand and a folder in the other. Her eyes flicked over to Charlie, then to Nancy, who froze mid-step.
“What is she doing here again?” Nancy hissed.
Linda’s voice was cool. “I’m here for my patient.”
“Patient?” Nancy scoffed. “He’s not even worth calling a stray, and now you’re acting like he matters?”
Charlie raised an eyebrow, amused. “Funny. You didn’t think that way when you were taking my blood for your mother.”
Nancy spun around, eyes burning. “Don’t twist things, Charlie! Everything I did, I did because I had no choice!”
“Yet somehow, Carl was always your first choice,” he replied coldly.
Linda moved to Charlie’s side and rested a hand gently on his shoulder. “He doesn’t belong here anymore.”
Nancy’s face twisted with rage. “So this is it, huh? You two were together all along. That explains everything. The attitude. The confidence. You’ve been cheating behind my back—”
“Cheating?” Charlie let out a quiet laugh. “You’re accusing me… of cheating?”
Linda didn’t even bother replying. She simply opened the folder and pulled out a few pages. “The test results show traces of forced blood extraction, stress-induced collapse, and malnutrition. If he hadn’t contacted me when he did, he wouldn’t have lasted another forty-eight hours.”
Nancy scoffed again, trying to regain control of the room. “And who are you to come in here throwing accusations?”
Linda looked her in the eye. “The only person here who actually wants to keep him alive.”
Silence fell over the room like a blanket.
Charlie stood up slowly, wobbling only for a second before regaining his balance.
“From now on,” he said quietly, “don’t talk to me. Don’t call me. Don’t act like I owe you anything. You’ve signed me away. I suggest you start living like it.”
Nancy looked at him like she barely recognized him.
And truthfully, she didn’t.
This Charlie—the one who stood calmly while the world around him began to shift—was not the man she had trampled for years.
He walked to the door with Linda beside him, not even looking back.
Only when they stepped into the hallway did he whisper, “Thank you.”
Linda gave him a small nod. “You haven’t even started yet.” And he knew she was right.

The air smelled faintly of antiseptic and tension, a scent that seemed to sharpen his senses further.Nancy’s mother lay in the same bed he had saved her from death before. Charlie had never felt so out of place. The grand office that now bore his name seemed more like a stage set than reality, a glittering cage of power where every move carried weight he wasn’t ready to bear. Linda, however, wasted no time.
