Chapter 01 - The Freed Baron

It was a quiet evening in the prison hall when I was just about to sit down for my meal... Before two burly police officers approached and told me to follow them as usual.

Two things: Either for me to bang them or for me to be beaten to stupor.

"Can I at least eat first?" I pleaded, already knowing what was coming. They’d usually take me to another place to torture me, all because of Mr. Gerald Usher’s bribe to the station.

He was a powerful billionaire, and the reason I was locked up.

Why? Because I’d smashed his face and shattered his nose after catching him with my wife, I mean what's not sensible about that?

The thought of it made me laugh cause this just proves how weak he is.

Though my worries were for my daughter, whom I feared I had failed.

I just hoped she was still alive because I have heard rumors.

"Everyone, say goodbye to this worthless man." One of the officers sneered.

"He has been ordered to pay $100 million or face his maker!" The officers mocking laughter echoed, but the other prisoners stayed silent with their faces twisted in anger.

"Bunch of fools, you all are gonna suffer in here anyways, although this special idiot would decay a lot sooner!" The police officer said as he slams his baton over my head causing the rest of the inmates having their meals to get up because of me.

The police officers were afraid with that motion.

"Hmm!" The police officers feared the men's reaction and what they didn't understand is that the criminals had become like my brothers and our bond was even stronger because majority of them were put in here unlawfully by the Usher's family and other top families associated with them, including my own Family but that would be my little secret... Won't it!?

I smiled at the officers in return!

"Up!" The police officers ordered as I followed them handcuffed to the call room.

"Huh? For over three years of private beating sessions, Why was today different?" I asked in my subconscious as I finally sat down.

"You have a Visitor." The police men replied.

Then the tinted glass slid up and another transparent glass shielded me versus My housekeeper, Mr. Bennet who picks up the call rooms telephone and I did as well.

"My Lord." He calls over the phone with a bow.

"Why are you here?" I asked back, upset because I couldn't understand why the old man wouldn't just give up on trying to help me.

"Your father has been deeply worried that you have rejected all his assistance to get you out of here for over three years now and I am here myself to plead with you Richard, Please accept your father's help and leave this dangerous place." The old man pleads looking at me.

"Why? After what he did to my mother, my mother is missing because of him, and my grandmother is... I don't even know if she is okay because I left her homeless with only two hundred dollars and my daughter whom I love so much is dead? Common." I said as I bursted into tears.

"This place might be hell on earth for me but it heals me... Because I know I failed everyone." I said back as I blinked off my tears in pain.

"Young Master... We can end all your pains right now... Your father has been depressed so badly, he legally willed everything to you and now he's suffering from a heart failure, if you do not get discharged from here in two days time... You would be killed by court orders." Mr. Bennet said as he went on his knees.

"Please, your father doesn't want to lose you... Despite his wealth... He is a disciplined man and would follow due process but don't forget that you can't die here, someone needs to care for your grandmother." He adds.

"Since you hate your father so much, how about me? Can't I help you, for old time sake!?" He asked and I nodded a Yes to him.

"Of course, only you is - Permitted." I replied.

"I see you wear the ring your father made for you... Your grandmother kept her promise indeed... Now concerning the $50 million discharge Fine, I have just paid for it from my savings - since you would accept my help, now you can finally leave here and return back home." Mr. Bennet said as he got up to look at me.

"How... Ah... How did you have up to 50 million dollars Mr. Bennet?" I stammered in shock, he was a mere butler at my father's house, I knew my father was financially stable but 50 million dollars coming from a butler was outrageous!

"Maybe when you come back home, I can explain better, I presume to pick you up tomorrow morning, common! Think about it... You're too handsome for this shit hole and you have just two days." Mr. Bennet said as he used his walking stick to leave the premises afterwards.

From my left hand side, I watched as one of the officers who listened to the part where he mentioned my bail was granted, looked tensed before leading me back to my room.

I couldn't sleep... Was I really going to leave here? At least seeing my grandma was worth it, and maybe my daughter, she's out there.

I stayed awake till 4AM at Midnight.

I kept my eyes on the ceiling before realising a type of gas had been released in my room and just as I stood up, my legs came falling back to the ground as sleep went through me.

I watched as I got carried by the corrupt police officers who bundled me into a vehicle with other criminals who were handcuffed as well and the Bus left at around 6AM.

"Here's the car keys, they're all discharged for final sentencing and they're handcuffed to their chairs, kill everyone, make it look more like they started some fight in the bus and tried to hurt you... Then boom! You shot them all in defence, technically all these men are to be executed anyways." The officer said as he evilly grinned.

"Plus ensure that idiot called Richard never gets to see the 7 O'clock Sun, Mr. Gerald Usher wants him gone, do you understand?" The police officer said giving the bus to another Driver who was dressed in all black with a machine Gun.

As you would guess... We were headed into the city for final ruling by the court even so the ruling was only meant for me, it means the other men here were planted for a greater plan and it didn't take long for the driver to claim a PTSD, meaning Post traumatic stress Disorder before opening Fire on the Bus.

"God! I have been shot!" He pretended as he opened fire at the bus like a villain.

"I need backup! Officer down!" He cried opening the bus backend to shoot at the hand-cuffed men, I knew I was the target he wanted.

Why did Mr. Gerald Usher hate me to this extent?

Hence I had managed to release some men but what shocked me was them protecting me.

"We've done bad things in this life man, but you... You've been through worse, We know what's up, run while you can! Remember us! Go!" One of the criminals shouted as soon as the Officer opened the back bus door, they began fighting him as I ran off for my life, watching as he shot them one by one as they devoured him in return, using anything they got to stab through him, from their handcuffs, teeths and to window glass bottles.

"Bam!!" I covered my ears running through the road before I finally stopped in my steps.

I turned around and froze to see everyone was dead.

My heart raced like it wanted to burst out of my chest.

Help! I needed help... I needed to be saved!

I couldn’t even think straight at this point.

My steps felt heavy, like I was walking in a dream and lost in confusion.

I had no phone to call my grandmother!

The city buildings loomed in the distance, and I could still see my ring on my finger. I gripped a nearby tree for support, and then suddenly, the bus behind me exploded.

I quickly pressed my thumb on the ring, and it beeped, followed by a loud siren that made my blood run cold on what was happening.
