WHIT 261 - NIGHT FALLS
About seven years ago, in a small village named Uvajed.A young girl and a younger boy were walking together, carrying wood and some vegetables and wheatgrass on their backs. Both had green hair, and the boy’s arms were tanned, because he usually spent a lot of time playing outdoors, but the other parts of the body were fair, though not as much as his sister. The days after the nightmarish night, Edgar and Fabby had seen quite many things that they’d never even imagined were possible.After they escaped Uvajed, they had to roam the streets and eat spoils. Mornings were rough, but they were nothing compared to the nights when beggars and orphans fought for sleeping spots on the street. But that wasn’t all. The night patrol officers targeted children, especially male children and snatched them away for the night. Fabby and Edgar were on constant run for many days and nights without stopping, hiding at various places. The sad reality struck them very hard.The people who were supposed to protect them were so cruel in their ways that these siblings spent every minute shivering. Even though they crossed different villages and towns, the officers that targeted boys at night didn’t change. In fact, they came to know that most patrol officers who get posted during the nights were those interested in boys and generally abused them for years. Be it

Months turned to years.Even though working in the fields had become a daily habit, so did the body pains. If not feet, then legs; if not legs, then back; if not back, then something else in the body took the turn. And by the time they got home, they were pretty tired, yet they wouldn’t be able to eat what they had produced or found.They were only given a limited amount of food such as corn or grains so they could make soup and live with it. The same plain soup with no vegetables in them whatsoever waited for them every night. And they were not paid anything else for their labor, for they were forced to work for the rest of their lives. There was no contract. Nothing. They were pretty much treated like cattle, or maybe even worse, with the only difference being their ability to talk. No matter how they were treated, they still worked hard, for most of them had reasons, be it their children and families.Fabby had Edgar, and Edgar had Fabby. “AHHH!” The siblings cried out in horror, mostly because of the pure shock value. Their eyes sprang out of the sockets.
