His only possession is a tattered watch from his best friend, who was taken by the government. They call them the District. Then he finds a dying Core that speaks. Nyx-0 is a Null-Type Beast, a legendary creature thought to be a myth. It can evolve by consuming other Cores. But every evolution costs Nova a memory. In this world, memories are wealth. The government would kill you for them. The Core Directive, the oppressive government that controls all Beasts and Pilots, wants Nyx-0 destroyed. They are the only ones who know it exists. The people think it is just a mythical Core. General Zero-One, a charismatic villain who lost his family to Beasts, wants to dissect Nyx-0 to end all Beasts forever. And Sera-404, a noble-born Pilot with a dying Beast of her own, will do anything to save what she loves. Nova faces an impossible choice. Stay bonded to Nyx-0 and become the most powerful Pilot alive, but slowly forget himself. Sever the bond and return to poverty, but keep his soul. Find a third path that no one believes exists. In a world where memory is power, Nova must decide. What is he willing to lose?

    I hit the ground.Or I would have. Nyx-0 moved fast, pressing its small body against my chest, and a strange warmth spread through the black mark on my skin. The air around us thickened and slowed. I felt something cushion the impact, not enough to stop us completely but enough to keep me alive.I crashed through rusted metal and heard my ribs crack.
