Chapter 1
Disbelief
The door swung open, and a man was standing tall in front of it, his face itching with despair, his gaze as sharp as the edge of a knife, fixed towards his mother-in-law.
The man turned out to be Morgan, the son-in-law of the Creek family, who was paid to marry Jessica of the Creek family and all of a Sudden, he vanished without a trace, and after five years, he was now standing in the Creek family mansion like a ghost who had just risen from the dead. "I'm here to see my wife. And what's with the stare?" Morgan's first words recoiled from his mouth. His fists curled, and his face frowned as he gazed at his mother-in-law, who stood dumbfounded. "Are you stupid? What do you mean by 'you are here to see your wife'? She is no longer your wife, and you have no right to see her!" Abigail Morgan's mother in-law replied, raising her voice. "How can you call her your wife when you abandoned her for five years, you fraud? Or was it because she's in a wheelchair? And by the way, my mother paid you a huge sum of money to marry Jessica and after everything, you vanished!" Isabella, Jessica’s stepsister, the daughter to Abigail, cut in, folding her arms across her chest as she spoke with irate. Morgan’s disappearance was a mystery, as he vanished without reason. Now, returning to the mansion to claim Jessica was absurd. "What the hell are you doing here?" a voice sounded from the other end of the room gradually reviewing a woman rolling forward in a wheelchair. Immediately Morgan saw the woman on the wheelchair he Snapped. The woman on the wheelchair was Jessica, his wife, whom he had married and after some months vanished for five years. Seeing Jessica, Morgan was dumbstruck. He hadn't seen her for years, and now, seeing her again overwhelmed him with joy, he felt like embracing her, but due to his mysterious vanishing he hesitated as he thought twice about it. Even as he was paid to marry Jessica, as things unfold, he found Jessica interesting and ended up developing a very strong feelings for her. "Jessica, it's not what you think. I left for a reason," Morgan tried to explain, but Jessica turned her head away in dismay, her eyes already welling up with tears. "I can't believe you did this to me! After making me believe I had finally found someone who could love me in my condition, but you proved me wrong. I hate you, Morgan!" Jessica said, tears gushing from her eyes, her lips trembling as she tried to speak but couldn't. "Jessica, now that Morgan is here, don't you think this is the right time to divorce him? He doesn't deserve your love, nor does he belong to this family anymore," Abigail sneered, glaring at Morgan with an intense dislike as if she wanted to make him vanish from existance, if she had the chance. Morgan tried to touch Jessica, but she slapped his hands away. “Get your filthy hands off me!” "Don't touch me, you fool! You don't deserve me anymore, so please, I advise you to get the hell out of this mansion right now!" Jessica snapped with an instructive tone, shifting her glare away from Morgan as she got repulsed by his presence. "Speaking of getting the hell out of this mansion, Morgan, how did you even get in here? Did you sneak in, as usual, like the thief you are?" Abigail spat, her voice sharp as a knife to Morgan’s ears. In reality, Morgan had fled the mansion because he was being threatened with death by Jessica’s family, specifically her step mother Abigail, after discovering something he shouldn’t have known. To save his life, he had to make the ultimate decision to disappear, for his good and for the good of his wife Jessica. "Speaking of thieves, you should be the real one here," Morgan retorted, facing Abigail head-on as he felt an intense rage surging into him, if they were to talk about thief at the moment Abigail was to be giving the high score. "Morgan, so you came all the way here after five years just to insult my mother? Are you insane?" Isabella snapped angrily, fumed at Morgan’s audacity on how he spoke to her mother. After Jessica’s mother died when Jessica was fifteen, her father, Creek, married Abigail. However, Abigail already had two daughters, Isabella and Mia. Years later, Creek died due to a severe illness, and his properties were illegally transferred to Abigail instead of Jessica saying that Jessica was too young to control the family business. Somehow, Morgan discovered documents revealing the truth. When Abigail found out about it, she threatened and had tried to kill Morgan multiple times but she didn't succeed. That was when Morgan fled—for his safety and for the sake of his wife's survival as well. If he hadn't done so and allowed Abigail got hold of him, she would eliminate both him and Jessica in a way to clear the evidence he had discovered, but because she hadn't succeeded in killing Morgan, she can't just go ahead and kill Jessica. "So, you think I don’t know what happened, you thief? You tried to steal some documents in an attempt to take over the steel manufacturing company from Jessica’s control," Abigail accused looking for a way to paint Morgan black, giving reasons why he fled for five years.Expand
