Chris had just returned from prison, only to find his wife getting married to Edward Jones—the same man who sent thugs to kill him behind bars.

He walked into the banquet hall, and just as Edward was about to place the ring on Alice’s finger, Chris shouted, “STOP this wedding!”

Everyone turned sharply. Gasps echoed around the hall.

“Isn’t that the guy who went to jail for his wife?”

“He has the guts to show up here?”

“He took the blame for her theft and went to prison. And now he’s back?”

The whispers weren’t even quiet. But Chris didn’t care. He kept walking toward Alice and Edward, locking eyes with both.

“I thought you said he was dead?” Alice whispered to Edward, her voice low and shaken.

Before Edward could speak, Chris spoke up, loud and clear.

“I can’t believe you’re marrying Edward Jones. The same man who tried to kill me in prison!”

He took a deep breath and stepped forward. “Five years ago, you got down on your knees and begged me to take the blame for stealing. I did it because I loved you, Alice. I went to prison for you. And now I come back and see you getting married to him?”

“Please, Chris!” Alice snapped, her face twisted in irritation. “Today is my day. Don’t ruin it for me. What happened five years ago is in the past. I’ve moved on. You should too.”

Chris stared at her. This was the same woman who cried and begged him to go down for her. Now she was acting like none of it mattered.

He slammed his hand on the table beside him. “This marriage won’t happen. Not while I’m still breathing!”

“And who are you to stop this wedding?” Edward finally spoke up. “It’s clear why Alice chose me. She couldn’t stay with a loser like you. Back when you were married, you couldn’t even buy her underwear. You were broke—living in her parents’ house, running errands like a servant. That’s why she left you, Chris!”

Chris’s fists tightened. What Edward said was true. He had lived with Alice’s parents and done their chores. But Alice had never asked for anything fancy, and now Edward made it sound like he was the one providing for her all along.

Chris’s voice trembled. “Wait… you mean this thing between you two has been going on for a while?”

“No, Chris. It’s not been a while…” another voice cut in.

Everyone turned.

It was Katherine, Alice’s mother. Tall and slim, though already 42, she looked much younger.

“You idiot,” she spat. “It’s been going on since the beginning.”

Chris blinked. “What… what do you mean?”

. “The affair started the night of your wedding! I drugged you so Alice could spend the night with Edward. You slept like a rock while they had their fun. Right under your nose.” Katherine tuned in, stepping forward.

“I only allowed Alice to marry you because I thought you had a future. But you’re just a useless rat. That’s why we made her steal the diamond and beg you to take the blame. We wanted you out of our lives as fast as possible!”

Katherine completed, bursting into laughter.

That laughter lit a fire inside Chris. Without warning, he slapped Katherine across the face.

“You’re a wicked woman!” he shouted.

Alice rushed forward, raising her hand to slap him back but Chris caught it mid-air and slapped her too.

“How dare you!” she screamed.

Edward moved closer, fury in his eyes. “Just wait, Chris. You’ll pay for that!”

He turned to the guards. “Get in here!”

Two strong men stormed in.

“Beat him! And make sure he doesn’t leave here alive!”

“Yes, sir!” they replied, cracking their knuckles.

They lunged at Chris, but just as their fists flew, Chris caught both of them with ease. His body tensed, and with one twist, he broke their wrists. Their hands dangled limp.

Before they could recover, Chris jumped and kicked them hard. They flew back, crashing into the banquet doors.

The hall fell silent.

Everyone stared, stunned including Alice and her mother, who knew Chris couldn’t even fight back in the past.

“How did he do that?” Alice whispered to her mother. “He used to be weak. He couldn’t even stand up for himself back then. So how on earth did he become so strong?…”

She flashed back to the prison years—how Edward sent men to beat Chris again and again. Until one day, an old man told Chris he could change his life.

Chris grabbed Edward by the collar and lifted him like he weighed nothing.

“Then call them,” he growled.

Suddenly, a cold voice rang out from the back of the hall. “How dare you touch him? Do you have a death wish?”

Everyone turned.
