Chapter 001

DIVORCE

The sleek, modern office was silent except for the faint hum of the air conditioning.

Ethan, a man in his early thirties with sharp features and a calm demeanor, sat behind his mahogany desk. His fingers tapped lightly on the polished surface as he held the phone to his ear. The voice on the other end was tense, almost anxious.

"How is our deal going?" Ethan asked, his tone steady but laced with authority and power.

There was a brief pause before the voice replied, "We agreed before that we would help your wife's company go public, and you would give me what we need, right?"

Ethan leaned back in his chair, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Business is business," he said calmly. "You did what you should do, and I will give you what you want."

The line went dead as he hung up the phone. He placed it gently on the desk, his expression unreadable.

Suddenly, the door to his office burst open. A man strode in, his face flushed with anger, and threw a thick document onto the desk.

Ethan looked up, recognizing the person immediately. It was his wife's secretary.

"So, she doesn't even bother to come here to face me in person? Is that how bad and useless I am?" Ethan asked, his voice tinged with pain. He had known this man for years, but now he stood before him as an adversary, a representative of his wife's new empire.

The secretary, a tall man with a smug expression, crossed his arms over his chest. "She doesn't need to," he said coldly. "You're nothing but an insatiable parasite. She's offering you five million dollars to sign the divorce agreement. Take it and disappear."

Ethan's jaw tightened, but he remained composed. He picked up the document, flipping through the pages without really reading them. His mind was elsewhere, replaying the moments that had led to this point.

The secretary continued, his voice dripping with disdain. "Your existence has stained her career. She's on the cover of Time magazine, for God's sake. Her company is about to go public as a unicorn. You? You're a negative asset to her business empire."

The words stung, but Ethan refused to let it show. He closed the document and set it back on the desk. "I don't believe any of this," he said firmly. "I want her to explain it to me in person."

The secretary smirked, as if he had been expecting this response. "Fine," he said. "But don't say I didn't warn you."

The Secretary picked up his phone from his pocket, and put a call unto Ethan's wife.

"Hello ma'am, the useless husband of yours demands for your presence! He claimed he won't sign the papers unless you are here!”

"Good, you're coming!”

With that , the line went dead. The Secretary stared at Ethan in disgust. His gaze glaring at him dangerously.

Meanwhile, Ethan seethed inwardly. His eyes blazed with rage and fury. He could do nothing but clenched his fists tightly and waited for his wife.

Minutes later, the door opened again, and his wife walked in.

The woman who had once been his partner, his confidante, his everything. She was as stunning as ever, dressed in a tailored suit that screamed power and success. Her heels clicked against the floor as she approached his desk, her expression cold and unyielding.

"You wanted to see me?" she asked, her voice devoid of emotion.

Ethan stood, his eyes searching hers for any trace of the woman he had once known. "Is this really what you want?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "To throw away everything we built together?"

She laughed, a sharp, bitter sound that cut through the air like a knife. "What we built together?" she repeated mockingly. "You mean what I built while you stood by and watched? Your value beside me is even less than that of a secretary. Do you understand that? I don't need you anymore. You are nothing but useless to me!"

Her words were like a slap to the face, but Ethan refused to back down. "You don't mean that, Celine," he said, his voice steady despite the storm raging inside him.

She stepped closer, her eyes blazing with contempt. "Oh, I do! What thing of value have you ever done for me in this mariage, Ethan! You are only proving to be useless and worthless and you expect a person like me to be associated with you?" she said. "I only need to snap my hand, and countless men will flock to kiss my feet. You? You're nothing to me now."

To emphasize her point, she snapped her fingers. The secretary, who had been standing silently by the door, immediately dropped to his knees and pressed his lips to her feet. Ethan watched in stunned silence, his heart sinking with each passing second.

"See?" she said, her voice dripping with satisfaction. "This is the kind of loyalty I command. You could never give me that."

Ethan felt a lump form in his throat, but he swallowed it down. He had always known she was ambitious, but he had never imagined it would come to this. "If this is what you want," he said quietly, "then I won't stand in your way. But there's one thing I need from you."

Celine raised an eyebrow, intrigued.

"And what's that?"

"My mother's relic," he said. "The necklace with the red gem. It's the only thing I have left of her. I want it back."

For a moment, Celine hesitated. The necklace had been a gift from him, a symbol of their love. But then her expression hardened, and she reached behind her neck to unclasp it. "Take it," she said, throwing it onto the desk. "It's worthless to me now."

Ethan picked up the necklace, his fingers brushing against the cool metal. He held it tightly, as if it were the only thing keeping him grounded.

He picked up the document and put down his signature as he agreed with the divorce.

Without another word, he turned and walked toward the door.

As he reached for the handle, he paused but didn't turn around. “Celine, are you really sure about this? Is this what you want?" he asked, his voice barely audible.

"What are you waiting for? Get out! You don't deserve me anyways, you are just useless!” She spat disparagingly.

“Okay then, I hope you don't regret your decision, Celine!" He muttered, his heart heavy with hurt and disappointment.

With that, he opened the door and stepped out into the hallway, leaving behind the life he had once known.

As soon as Ethan walked out of the office, the secretary approached Celine, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"Don't worry," he said. "Your future husband will be someone extraordinary. Someone who deserves you. Not garbage like him."

She didn't respond, her gaze fixed on the closed door. For a brief moment, a flicker of doubt crossed her face, but it was gone as quickly as it had appeared. She straightened her shoulders, her expression harde

ning once more.

"Let's go," she said, turning on her heel. "We have work to do."
